We arrived in Maracaibo at around 10.30pm which wasn't ideal as we had been warned that bus stations are unsafe at night. Quickly moving around the station not only is every ticket office closed but no buses run to Columbia anymore. With hope fading I go to the next best thing and order some food. Luckily the guy speaks English and arranges a shared taxi for us to cross the border. We have to wait until 6am or until he finds more passengers. Within the hour he has found a Columbian and 2 Venezuelans. The taxi is barely road worthy. It is on the verge of collapse at every bump. We begin our journey to Columbia. Stopping to show our passports at every check point and speaking rubbish Spanish we eventually make it into Columbia at 2.30am. We head to Maicao where we can get a bus to Santa Marta...
