We boarded a sleeper train to Gorakhpur at 11:20pm quickly found our cabin, made friends with our fellow Indian travellers and set to sleep. We awoke to a broken down train 15km from our destination. Conversations with our new friends led to us jumping the tracks an hour later and stowing ourselves on the next train going our way.
Having arrived in Gorakhpur 3 hours late we jumped in a £10 taxi 230km to the Nepalese border. We arrived in good time and found ourselves Katmandu bound in a 15 seater bus with 17 Nepalese compatriots, what ensued was a very uncomfortable yet awe inspiring journey through Chitwan National Park and some of the most amazing scenery either of us had ever seen. An erratic and overconfident driver overtook everything in his sight and turned a 12 hour drive into 8. We had arrived in Kathmandu already in love with an amazing country and giddily excited for what lay ahead.
