Another 531 clicks closer to the top end and an interesting day on the road. Still feeling the cold this morning - was only 9 degrees when we rolled out of Keith just before 8am. Was good to get some distance behind us before a brief stop off in Hahndorf to let the boys have a look around at this lovely little German town that brought back memories for both Anth and I, having both travelled there as children with our own families. We checked out the cuckoo clocks store ducked in to an Opal shop / jewellers to give the boys an idea of what to expect come Coober Pedy and luck was still with us at this point as the owner of the store was there and was a wealth of information. He also owns a mine up at Coober Pedy where all there opals come from and he gave the boys a great insight into the process involved in shaping the stones after they've been found - another thing they do onsite there. He wrote down some details for us about where to stay, which tour to go on and also the best noodling places! Something the boys are keen to try their hands at! I think the thing I enjoyed the most was looking at all the hand crafted Christmas decorations and the stories & traditions behind them. Getting through the outer Adelaide suburbs can only be described as tedious and I think we were all relieved to once again hit the open roads. We have tonight arrived in Port Augusta and are staying at the Shoreline Caravan Park which sits on the Spencer Gulf. HUGE rail yards are on the opposite side of the water from where we are and the boys were delighted to finally see a very long train which reminded them of the one they remember from our trip to the NT a few years ago and were then astounded to know that the one they saw today may quite possibly be NT bound. Absolutely stunning location and the picture perfect sunset over the water although I fear my photos don't do it justice. Suzy the ISUZU is doing a great job carting both us and our house on wheels but wold appear she was a little thirstier today than usual (most likely due to the Adelaide Hills which are sight in themselves) and about 15km short of Port Augusta she gave a little cough so we pulled over to work out the best course of action to take. If you too own a vehicle that tells you how many kms you have til empty - a word of warning - don't trust it - especially if towing...... A lovely gentleman came to our rescue and ferried Anthony a couple of kms further up the road and then returned him to us with a jerry can of diesel. Yes, we now have an extra jerry can - something I'd wanted from the get go. Poor Anth is feeling very bad about the whole situation but not unlike my last minute re wiring of the 12v fridge plug yesterday morning, I'm putting it down as a mere blip....
