La Paz, La Paz.. crazy and high you were a lot of fun!
I left Boilivia in the dead of night. Sharing a taxi with Nancy, the cab wound its way to the airport through the hillsides and for once all was quiet. As I boarded the plane I watched the bright yellow full moon slowly dip, as on the opposite side the sun started to rise, creating a layered effect of purple, blue and red in the sky. Very pretty indeed.
So on my 12th flight of the trip, and by now feeling very at home in airports (and always on the look-out for interesting co-passengers) I was chuffed to spot a family of Canadian cult members (or possibly Amish?) at Santa Cruz airport, the women very plainly dressed in long skirts with tied-back hair; the men seem to have got off a little easier in baseball caps and braces.
As we soared above the clouds I was given one last glimpse of the snow-capped Andes - a stunning farewell to the dizzying altitudes of the past couple of weeks. Next stop, Buenos Aires to see the beautful people. Bolivians are nice enough, but let's face it they are no lookers...
