A day on the road today leaving Ottawa in Ontario province and entering Quebec province, the largest Canadian province in terms of area. This province is officially uni-lingual (French) with all road signs for instance only in French and the population generally only French speaking. While there are exceptions to this of course in the main tourist areas and cities where English would be more evident, but as we were travelling today through rural areas on the way to our next destination, it was a bit of a hoot ordering lunch but we got there and we've again found that people are appreciative if you make an effort to speak the local language. Even Bill got into it unlike some others on the tour who steadfastly refused to even say 'Merci'.
Two highlights today:
-the hotel where we are staying Station Touristique Duschesnay (only one night unfortunately) is a tourist eco resort on the shores of Lac-Saint-Joseph and the location is quite stunning. We could have easily had a second night here.
- the sighting of wild black bears from viewing towers in a large forested area. We had to be very quiet and wait a while but we were fortunate to have two bears come for a treat of cake. We were near a small lake which was also a beaver habitat although we didn't see any.
