Boot camp: day 3
Rising to the boot camp challenge, I got up at 5, so I could experience the delights of a dawn exercise class. Felt invigorated by the time I'd finished body pump at 7! Researched stuff to do and places to stay in Bali and headed back with Michael and Kylie at 10.
Annelise was up by then, so we packed up the car and headed o to Byron Bay for lunch. Took a scenic route into the town along an unmade road with stunning views down on to the bay. Byron seemed a very laid back surfy boho backpacker place with a nice vibe. Ended up in Byron Bay Hotel, Michael's favourite beach pub for lunch. I could see why: right on the beach, lovely cooling breeze, nice schooner, and not a bad salad. The permanent stage hinted that a good night out would be had there as well. Sat out in the sun which some of the party later found out was not a great idea……could have spent the day in there but Michael had some other sights to take in on the tour…..
We drove towards Cape Byron, the most eastern point of Australia, and parked up in abay. Marched off towards the lighthouse in our flip flops, a little sluggishly I have to admit. Great view north and south along the Eastern seaboard as far as the eye could see. Many steps later…..reached the summit and paused for an ice cream. Michael pointed out the car park at the top, however he thought the climb would do us good. Thanks mate!
Walked a bit further on to see a deserted wild beach stretching into the distance. Headed back to the car and poised again on the point. From high up on the cliffs we spotted turtles and a family of dolphins with a cute tiny baby. Michael had planned a swim from a beach on the way back to the car. On the approach to the suggested bathing spot was a sign with warnings of strong currents, no lifeguard, submerged objects and large waves. Looked a perfect place or a dip, until I spotted the tide line was littered with small jelly fish with blue tentacles. Clambered around the rocky cliff base back to the car. At this point I think some members of the party wished they had applied sun tan lotion…….
Headed back to the gym (via home for a nap). A-lo and I went to local fish market and picked up snapper, barramundi and prawns for dinner. The Body Combat class achieved its quorum at the last minute so no escape or Annelise……An hour later I carried her to the car……
Cooked dinner of garlic prawns followed by lightly seasoned pan fried snapper and barramundi with honey and lemon roast vegetables and super noodles (Annelise needed her carbs!).Washed down with a fine sparkling rose. Lie in planned for the following morning, so I started watching a American Psycho on TV. Typically a humungous storm broke and torrential rain cut the signal at the critical part. I'll never know if she made it out of his apartment alive.
