With Noel's hangover cured, from the camel sesh, we continued on with our desert adventure. We arrived in Johdpur, a city in which every building is painted blue, intended to bring good fortune. In the 45 deg heat we rambled around the city's fort set on a cliff side to take in the impressive views. On this tour we soon discovered we were being bombarded with fort after fort and palace after palace. It was like going to England and just doing a National Trust tour of all the castles and stately homes.
Our next stop was Udaipur, known as the Venice of the East. It has a huge man made lake surrounded by mountains and many floating palaces in the middle, very picturesque. The James Bond film "Octop**** quot; was filmed there (good cheesey flick), so we watched it one night with a beer over looking the lake and it was quite surreal being in it's set.
As you probably knbow Indian's LOVE cricket! So when we arrived in Jaipur we watched an IPL gasme in the evening. We went in the budget seats and were surrounded by thouseands of hyperactive Indian cricket enthusiats. They also showed A LOT of enthusiasm for the the cheeerleaders!! We were supporting the home team, Rajasthan Royals, captained by Shane Warne, but the main reason was because on of their players is called Ross Taylor, much to Tay's liking.
We couldn't travel round India without glimpsing it's most famous monument, the Taj Mahal. So that was our next destination. I have to say it surpassed all expectations and was realluy beautifual, and also much bigger than you would think. When the pictures go up you'll see we replicated many of the steriotypical touristy poses.
For the past five days we have been residing in the Himalayas which has been the perfct peaceful retreat from the heat and chaos we had become accustomed to. We are staying just north of Dharamsala in a town called Mcleod Ganj. The Tibetans are in exile here and they are really friendly. There are many Budest Monks wanderng the streets and mountain sides which is pleasent. Luckily the Dahli Lama has been in town this week which was really exiting. We are staying at 4000ft above sea level, and that combined with 8% beer has really made our evenings extravagant and eventful. One night we gatecrashed a private IPL party at one of the rooftop restraunts. Fortunately they welcomed us and invited us to use their open bar and free buffet, which unfortunately led to our demise!!
The next part of the journey will be conquering many thousands of miles to get back to Mumbai as we are flying into Australia in 4 days.
See you then xxxx
