Hello again. Thought I better post a quick update to let you know how we're doing. We've finally left Australia and we're currently in Singapore before we fly up to Thailand tonight.
We spent our last full day in Australia at Steve Irwins Australia Zoo. It was brilliant, full of animals as expected and Gem and Laura fulfilled their ambitions of cuddling a koala! We had a great day until it came to going home. Due to an error on our behalf we got on the wrong bus which instead of taking us to the local train station, took us to a place called Noosa which is about 60 miles in the wrong direction. Nightmare!!!! Fortunately the very kind bus driver took us all the way back to the station and we eventually got home, albeit 4 hours after we had set off, never mind... live and learn.
The flight to Singapore was the best ever mainly due to the inflight entertainment consisting of the Borat movie and several episodes of Extras and The Office. The first thing we noticed about Singapore was how clean it is. Apparently you face the death penalty for littering, or something like that. Everyone here speaks english which makes our lives very easy. Despite only being here for a couple of days we've crammed a fair amount in. Yesterday we took a cable car to Sentosa Island which is nice enough but a little bit touristy. From there we went up to a place called Kranji War Memorial to visit Gemmas Grandads memorial. It was a really nice place, unfortunately the rain poured down and we got soaked to the bone. Having left Kranji our last stop for the day was the night safari which is basically a guided trip around Singapore Zoo at night. Sounds a bit rubbish but it was brilliant. Saw loads of different animals and the whole thing was really well set out. Think we both set personal bests of 2 zoos in 2 countries in the space of 3 days.. it will definitely take some beating.
We have spent most of today cruising around Singapores infinite shopping malls. I think Gem and I must be celebrities because its amazing the amount of shop owners that have offered a 'special price just for you'. Despite their unbelievable generosity we've kept the buying to a minimum. Our other activity of note today has been sampling the delights of a Singapore Sling cocktail in Raffles Hotel. It was a very nice drink in a very nice place although the best bit about it was the unusual custom of eating monkey nuts and throwing the shells on the floor!!! All in all Singapores seems like a pretty good place but its time to say goodbye because we're heading up to the airport in a few hours to fly to Thailand, should be interesting.
Hope alls well. Speak to you soon xxxxxxx
