Sunny
Had a bit of a sleep in this morning then the bus took us to the port where we caught a boat to Venice. It was very exciting to finally see this place that l've only seen in films or read about. It has criss-crossing canals, gondolas and water buses/taxis/ambulances, arched bridges, a palace and quiet little piazzas.Venice is famous for Murano glass so we were taken to watch Venetian glass blowers fashion their delicate objects. It was really fascinating watching the guy make a horse from a red hot blob of nothing and he did it so quickly. We bought a few glass bits and pieces. Then we a gondola ride while being serenaded by a local troubadour…..it was so relaxing and l would have loved to have stayed on the gondola for longer. The rest of the day mum and l walked around, we had a look at lots shops full of glass figurines, jewelry, beautiful ornate masks, chandeliers, vases etc.The city is very commercialized and tourist orientated which spoils it a bit but it was still beautiful.I bought some Italian leather and mum spoilt herself with jewelry.Dinner was in a nice little restaurant off the main plaza. We had pizza and a dessert with coffee, then we walked back to our meeting place and watched a beautiful sunset. We met up with the group around 8.15pm an caughth the boat back to the bus and then back to the hotel. What a lovely day!
