Matt has some obsessive interests. Now I'm not diagnosing him with any kind of disorder (although I have a few in mind), but these are the kind of peculiarities or 'quirks' that you really notice when you are married. Well, for the past year, Matt's fixed interest has been the heroin addicted, smooth voiced jazz musician Chet Baker. I had thought this obsession might fade while on this trip, but no. In Amsterdam, we had to find the hotel where Chet Baker committed suicide and had his picture taken beside the 'commemorative' plaque.
It came as no surprise then that as we came into Paris, the Chet Baker song 'I Love Paris' became the constant theme song for our sightseeing adventures. Standing at a corner waiting for the 'walk' sign ...."I love Paris in the springtime..." Climbing the stairs to reach the views provided by the Arc De Triomph...."I love Paris in the summer". Suddenly the running obsession wasn't quite as annoying. It made sense. He started listening to Chet Baker around the time we visited Paris last spring. Now we were back in summer. In case you don't know the remaining lyrics to the song, (and why would you, unless you are a grandparent reading this) the next lines continue about Chet's love for Paris in fall and winter.
Over a glass of rosé, a basket of baguette, and a plate of cheese at the Musee D'Orsay, Matt made the bold suggestion...."wouldn't it be nice to come back sometime in the fall? I bet it would be great with all the falling leaves and less tourists." I'm not sure whether his constant singing of the song is intentional brainwashing on his part to get us back to Paris again, but I'm no longer complaining.
