Despite some noisy neighbours in the early hours of the morning we managed to get a good nights sleep. Up, packed and brekkie ....Au revoir to our lovely Derya at the hotel... so helpful. With her directions we walked with our luggage to Montparnasse railway station. Only took about 15 minutes with ample time to spare (we’re always early!). Fairly chaotic probably due to the continual rolling strikes of French rail ... hindered by construction work taking place. Thankfully no strike today! Not sure whether the guys in camouflage combat gear carrying machine guns created apprehension or made you feel safe ... debatable!
Brought back memories of other destinations where we have waited intently focussing on the departure board for the platform to be designated- then hot foot it ! Found carriage 16 and our seats with no issues. Settled in for the two hour journey to Bordeaux. Very comfy ...plenty of room and wifi ... easy to track our journey and catch up on communication etc. The TGV train travelled at around 295 kms per hour ! Beautiful countryside - quite flat; farming areas and villages; lush and green. Great way to travel!
Bordeaux railway station and environs was actually quite impressive - not what I expected. We grabbed a quick panini and cold drink before lining up for a taxi to take us on the approximately 20 minute trip our to the depot near Mérignac airport to collect our brand new Peugeot 2008. Cost a little more than expected but seemed our best and easiest option. Raym handled the car handover well ... all a bit overwhelming ... new vehicle, left hand drive, wrong side of the road etc....
Fortunately only a couple of kms to our Best Western hotel for the night ...and time to prepare for Roey’s arrival from
Copenhagen in a couple of hours. The hotel is quirky- very American...
We decided to get directions to a nearby shopping complex with supermarket to stock up on a few supplies.
Not long back and Roey arrived in after his flight from Copenhagen via Paris! So wonderful to see him ... and so much to catch up on! Enjoyed a few drinks and much chat before the boys had a swim then dinner in the American Diner downstairs . Much fun!
Sleep needed before the next stage of the adventure begins tomorrow .

DAD Bonjour. My previous attempt at a simple French sentence led to their telling me it was SPAM!
