Back again to relate some more tales to make you giggle.Today was a bit more leisurely as the Temple tour had wiped us out.We visited the artisan gallery and watched them carving those huge buddhas out of sandstone. The huge ones I want scattered around my garden....now theres a suggestion for all u peeps who never know what to get me for my birthday, xmas etc.....then in the afternoon Rob went for his daily massage , this time
"4 hands" 2 giggly girls and he really enjoyed it !! lol.I decided to bring some culture into our lives and dragged him to a cello concert by the famous Swiss cellist "Beatocello" He was very clever and very funny and basically you paid for the concert by donating blood or money. He was responsible for ,building 5 childrens hospitals, free of charge to the Cambodians as they have no medical care here and for the mountain people who bring their children 100's of km they also pay their travel. There is no government funding for this.
A little bit of info for those of u who may never get here....a teacher is paid 40 dollars a month, a policeman is paid 40 dollars a month (explains why the corruption over here is horrendous !)...and a masseur who is as talented as any chiropractor we have ever seen in the uk...gets 40 dollars a month and has the pleasure of working from 9 in the morning til midnite 7 days a week !!! And if ur boss decides to close the doors for a 2 week holiday ...u dont get paid !!!!!Food for thought heh ? BTW Rob is paying 5 to 12 dollars for an hours massage.
The next day was Valentines Day and who said romance was dead ?
Went to watch a new junior league under 14's started by 2 Bristolians....dont they just get everywhere !!Rob had a massage and then we went and met another Bristolian called Dorian on holiday for chinese new year from his job in Saigon.
Watched the Spurs Bolton game and the rugby against Italy....both slightly embaressing but had a few beers...first time we have gone back a bit tipsy.
On the Monday we had a great afternoon ...we were picked up by Ankara on his moto and I went with him and Rob got another driver and we took a white knuckle ride out to a countryside village charity school.
After teaching for 2 hours we had a break for an hour and a half where we wondered around the village OMG !!They showed us inside there huts and around there gardens ?They had chickens which was their only source of meat. The chickens were scrawny and looked oven ready ..no more than about 5 feathers on most birds. The head teachers house was the size of 4 of our sheds and our shed looks like a palace in comparison. He lived there with his beautiful wife who couldnt find work, 2 children 2 and 4 and it wasnt on stilts.Apart from a couple of pots it contained a wooden bed on stilts ...in the rainy season this is wot they live on...the bed..as the hut will be about a foot deep in water. God knows how they survive on 40 dollars a month but they do...rice,rice rice and more rice and there was me moaning. This is sounding a bit depressing so I wont tell you the rest but if you want to Know more ask when we get back...
The following day we left Jean Gui and Ann and left for Phnom Penh....this will now be referred to as Pong !!!
