We arrivedat Mount Emei which is about 2 hours west of Chengdu and found our 4 star hotel!! to be an ex-chinese government building.....set in the most beautiful surroundings atop a mountain surrounded by sub-tropical plants it was built in the 1920's so was very art deco although the outside was typical chinese government building the inside was actually quite a surprise. Our room had an entire wall of glass which overlooked the forest and mountains beyond so although the western restaurant consisted of maggie and I trying to deciper the chinese menu! the view from the room was worth it. We then spent a day visiting the Giant Buddha built out of the rock face at the meeting of 3 rivers, he was built to protect the local village from floods and evidently has worked! We then went to visit the Golden Temple atop of Mount Emei, I chickened out of the cable car so walked up about a third of the mountain while maggie went with our guide simon to the top and took some amazing photos. which we'll put on soon promise. We then took a drive back to Chengdu we got our guide to take us on a different route so we could see some real chinese countryside and take a few walks into the country, once again photos to come. finally back to chengdu for our last night then off to Lhasa. TEMPORARY PHOTO THIS IS REALLY MOUNT FUJI!
