Santiago Chile
Again, Santiago wasn't in the original plan however after meeting Pam & Maca in Ilha Grande they offered to give us a personal tour of the city. We'd heard that there weren't masses to do in Chile's Capital so we decided to stay for only two nights, for a bargain price at Footsteps hostel in the heart of the city. Unbeknown it was only 120 footsteps away from the metro station (sweet) however the metro journey is not the easiest… especially in morning rush hour!! Fay bless her being squashed against the window for two stops.
After a tour of the Plaza's and parks we met the girls that evening at a quirky but trendy cocktail bar, to sample Chile's infamous Pisco Sours. Much to our delight the bar also served Hookah, where we smoked raspberry flavoured tobacco and drank cocktails into the early hours. Was nice to catch up & they also introduced us to one of their friends, Lucin. He was a great laugh with him & I having drinking & smoking competitions.
We headed out on our own to the National Park the following day to see Chile's smaller version of The Christ the Redeemer and in true TeamFeast style we hiked 7km to the top. This time it was an accident as we missed the signs for the footpath (only 30mins to the summit) & ended up following the road for 2.5hrs…flip flops were defiantly not the right choice of footwear!! Ha ha!! Later that evening we arrived at Maca's house for a family BBQ (blisters on feet). They put out a lovely spread of food and were so inviting, the 5 dogs liked us too. Drank and ate till the early morning speaking lots of Spanglish. A great personal insight into the Chilean lifestyle.
After only 2hrs sleep (the rest we can catch up on our 23hr direct coach journey) we head to the desert of San Pedro de Atacama for the Bolivian Salt Flat tour
