First stop, Raglan, a little surf town on the west coast of north isalnd. The hostel was in the bush, was a pretty cool place just outside of tje town at the base of Mount Karioi. Whilst some people learned to surf i went for a hike up the mountin and watched the sun set from inspiration point which was beautiful.
The following day we went to the waitomo caves, i did the spellbound tour, we saw 1000's of glow worms and a couple of really big eals!! the caves were created by water running through soft limestone, the glow worms are the lava stage of an insect and emmit a light to attract food. After visiting the caves we headed for Maketu. A small town on the east coast in the bay of plenty. Here we had a Maori culture night, we had traditional food, entertainment and singing. We learnt to dacne the poi and the hakka which was really fun.
After a night in Maketu we headed to Taupo via Rotorua. In Rotorua we stopped off and bathed in some thermal mud pools which was really fun, if not a little smelly from the sulphur! We headed to lake Taupo where we had a wonder by the lake and liiked ath the hukka falls before getting an early night.
