We ‘Linga Longa’ in Port Gregory
Shire Of Northampton, Western Australia
Whilst chatting to an 'old' bloke in Cervantes he told us to give Port Gregory a go as opposed to Kalbarri. So onto Wikicamps Tara was, she soon discovered a farm stay just out of Port Gregory. We loved Big Valley (Margaret River) so much we thought another farm stay would be fun!
Off we went, a quick stop in Geraldton or 'Gero' to local folk to stock up. Larry needed a spare air filter for the big trip up through the outback, well we got the air filter and ANOTHER solar panel…. "it was cheap" Tristan said. After hitting Woolies to stock up on more food and some more VB's for Tristan (he gets a bit nostalgic about his beer) we were off again… in search of Linton Farm Stay.
When we arrived we were greeted by old ruins from the convict era and a beautiful old homestead from the 1800's. Then there was Vic, the care taker of the campground. The loveliest, most eccentric and caring caretaker we have met so far. He had such a great knowledge of the station and its surrounds.
On the Friday night Vic called 'happy hour' at the historic old barn. It was a good chance to meet the owners of the station-Jenny and Greg and their beautiful dog Bear as well as some of the other campers in the park. Jenny told us we could go check out their private beach just over the highway. The beach and coastline was stunning as the hutt river mouth had recently broken through to the beach. We were also recommended to have a look at the pink lake…. It was bright pink and not a dry pink lake like home! Vic said something about Beta Carotene minerals or something, anyway they extract something out of it.
On one of the mornings Jenny said she saw a whale from the beach. Into Larry we both jumped to try and catch a glimpse. Jenny lent us her binoculars, glad she did… we caught a few small jumps from a distance, but it was still a sighting- our first sighting!
We also visited Kalbarri National Park and the Principality of Hut River- each worthy of their own blog upload!
When we were leaving Vic pointed out that we did in fact 'Linga Longa' as we kept extending and ended up staying 4 nights.
Thank you, Vic, Jenny, Greg and Bear. We had a ball!
