The Mighty Nullarbor, WA- Eucla to Cocklebiddy
Cocklebiddy, Western Australia
As we rose from a well deserved rest, it was time to explore... Cocklebiddy was only 2.5 hours away so we had a bit of time up our sleeves.
The park in Eucla overlooked the Nullarbor Plain and in front was a long dirt track down to the old telegraph station. The ruins of the station was half burried in dunes that would one day bury the whole sight. As we took some pictures of the historic sight, we said hello to a couple walking back twoards us, they mentioned the beach and the old ruins of the Eucla Jetty... they said it was about 1km of sand walking but it was well worth it... They were not wrong.
As we wandered down the many tracks to find the beach, there stood a massive old Jetty, or at least the ruins of one. The Jetty was surrounded by bright aqua blue water and the whitest of beaches. We could finally say we walked along the coast of the Australian Bight. After a slightly longer walk back to meet Larry... (we got lost, too many tracks) we went to grab Judy. Hitched her up and off we went, Cocklebiddy bound!
As we left Eucla it was a steep descent onto the plain, which would have once been the sea floor. Well we are guessing it was, as to the right of us was a range which looked like it was once the coast line, after all neither of us are Geography teachers!
As we pulled into Cocklebiddy we wondered what we would do for the day... It was only 12PM After all. (we were pretty sure the guy that served us was thinking the same)
When we pulled up to our site (which was a patch of dirt next to the servo) we could see a large cage just over from us. Within the cage stood two of the biggest and most beautiful Wedgetail eagles. The pair were rescued from the Nullarbor after accidents. Tristan couldn't help but watch the majestic animals and they were equally inquistive of us.
After a quick look in the bar and a few loads of washing it was time to relax and get a good night sleep.
