To get into Vietnam I did a 3 day tour along the Mekong Delta where we got a boat to Chau Doc for the first night; here I taught english at a school in the evening! Next day we went to a fishing village and saw the cages under the floating houses which are filled to the brim with fish, when you feed them they all scramble over each other to get the food. Also saw a small factory where they were weaving scarves in a Cham minority village. We arrived in Can Tho by boat which is where the homestay was but it was tipping down with rain so there wasn't much to do. We walked to the rice paddie fields which were so muddy and slippery - one of the girls fell over! Was interesting to see how hard the farmers work - both men and women. All along the Mekong Delta is people in their conical hats washing and collecting food or riding bikes and you also see a lot of water buffalo. The next day we went to a bamboo bridge and walked across it - its just some bamboo going across the river so not particularly safe!!
I then arrived in Saigon where I did a day tour of the Cu Chi tunnels and a Cao Lai temple. The temple was filled with people dressedin long white overalls (its a cult) and praying all in time to music. The temple is decorated wiuth huge eyes and stars on the ceiling. Cu Chi tunnels were really cool to see - you could climb through them but they get smaller and smaller the further in you go so I didnt go the whole way! The next day I looked around Saigon city - its so busy and choc a bloc with motorbikes - never seen anything like it!
I then went to Mui Ne with Sofia who I met at the tunnels. It didnt have as many watersports as I had expected and was mainly resorts so a bit dissapointing. We did get to go in jeep up to the sna dunes and the fairy springs which was really cool. We went sand boarding down them which was so much fun.
Next, to Nha Trang which I loved - loads of watersports and really big beach - I did sailing and windsurfing. One of the days we did a boat trip around the nearby islands for some snorkelling and could jump off the top deck of the boat. We didnt realise the trip was actually more of a booze cruise and turned out we had a free floating bar where a bar tender sits in a big rubber ring and you swim upto him and he gives you drink while you swim - too funny! Met loads of people in Nha Trang - everyone travels in the same directions so Vietnam is great for meeting people! Sofia travelled onwards quicker than me so Im now ith Bianca, a girl from Holland.
We arrived in Hoi An a few days ago - its insane - you could spend soooo much money here! every shoip is a tailor or a shoemaker and you can get literally anything - ive got some jeans, flip flops and a winter coat all that fit me perfectly and so cheap too! Had to buy another bag to carry everything in! As well as getting clothes made theres a beach nearby which we cycled to which is as nice as Nha Trang - really long, sandy and chilled out. Going to the beach this afternoon again. Tomorrow we travel up to Hue and then from there to Ninh Binh.
