My love for Thailand grows stronger by the day, as soon as I got out of Bangkok I entered a whole different crazy, unimaginable world! I have honestly had the best two and a half weeks of my life with some minor mishaps of course along the way!
Leaving to go down south I got in a taxi to go to my bus with an hour to spare, Plenty of time I thought ha not in Bangkok! We were stuck in so much traffic then half an hour in to my cab journey the taxi driver says err where you go?! He didn't understand anything I said, so between me making ridiculous sounds and hand gestures and pointing to try explain he pulls over on the side of a dual carriage way and exclaims I have to get out here and walk the rest because he can't go further.. There's me just like errr Mai Mai Mai (no, no, no) and him just laughing shrugging his shoulders! So with me swearing I haul my backpack on and start to hastily walk down this stupid road with cars zooming past so far. Not to mention the fact I am already late for my bus and I have no idea where I'm going, bloody hell I was sweating so much I must of looked like such a mad woman running along this busy road with my backpack, lost. But the short of it was I did manage to get my bus to Phuket! Where I met will and the two guys I've been travelling with ever since, from Germany and Austria. Phuket was a bit of a s*** hole to be honest it was only good for street food and not being to touristy. However after two days there we left to go to phi phi, which is where I fell in love with Thailand and I also I think lost my soul! The island is beautiful all little cobbled street ways like a maze adorned with as many fruit shakes for sale that you could possibly imagine and more tattoo shops that should ever be allowed. It kind of reminds me of a pirate never land, I could happily be the girl hippie version of Peter Pan and stayed there forever. All the Thai people there are so cool too covered in tattoos, dread locks, massive stretched ears!
We stayed at a place called flower bungalows which was just lots of little woven huts with a mattress on the floor and full of little bunnies and rabbits! Which was cute till you got rabbit droppings on your bed. The first day we chilled by the beach watching the boats in the harbour floating up and down, got some bottles of beer, then headed up to the look out point which was so, so high up and alot of hard work but so worth it, the view was incredible and you could see both sides of the island which both looked mirrored. That night was the start of all the messiness all I'm going to say is buckets of Long Island Ice tea are bloody lethal especially with Thai measurements! We went on a day tour the next day, hangover in toe, intense heat and a rough and rocky boat ride was not ideal. I wanted to die, i couldn't even speak it took all my energy into focusing on not being sick in front of a boat load of people. As soon as we got to the monkey beach however I took refuge behind a rock to throw up, as I was doing so however this bloody monkey was tugging on my dress and wouldn't leave me alone.. Far to surreal and then the little s***s kept going to grab my bag and take my camera and phone. I really wanted them to be cute but they were so violent, one took my water off me and I was like b***** trying to fight this guy.. Tricked by a monkey!
We then went snorkelling, much to my despair but I didn't not want to do it the water was so clear and the views around us were so beautiful so many cliffs and rocks towering the sky. I have to keep pinching myself and being like s*** I'm in Thailand it's so easy to become complacent when travelling, you really have to have a moment to take it all in. We then went to the famous beach where the beach itself was filmed, which again was breath taking. however to get off we had to jump out of the boat which was really high i honestly took about ten minutes to bring myself to do it. once i had we then had to grab onto these stairs but to do that you had to wait for the waves to go out, the amount of times i got smashed against the rocks doing it, thats Thai efficiency right there no safety precautions at all. The beach was beautiful too the scenery here is insane! The journey back was even worse waves constantly coming up into the boat soaking us, but of course when you feel that ill due to alcohol the only way to sort it out is to hair of the dog it.
Jonny, nik and I then left phi phi to go to krabi for the night which should maybe just be renamed crappi cause its a bit of a dive. After the ferry we got a taxi, I went to get in the back with the boys but the taxi driver told me I had to sit in the front with his daughter on my lap. Oh my god his driving was crazy I thought I was going to die, not to mention this poor little girl had some sweaty English biatch dripping all over her! No sooner had we found a place to stay the power for the whole town went off, pretty sure this may happen often as all the restaurants were still cooking food with a generator and all offering candlelit dinner specials like it was a treat. We went back to our room to have a chilled one as we were so broken from phi phi and it was so hot with no fan, I went to have a shower to cool down and of course no water either. That was not an attractive sight esp as my bed was wet around me- I am so fit.. What a treat for the boys ha.
So the next morning we had to take a bus then a ferry for the madness that was koh pangyan, again boat over loaded with people to the point that I just sat on the floor up on deck and watched the sun set! Got to our hostel which was defiantly flash packing as it had air con and a pool. Literally had the best lot of people in one dorm too, so much fun and every night was a different party night! First was waterfall party which was deep in these forests by yes, a waterfall. Second night was the jungle party set in a clearing in the thai jungle which was insane too and the music incredible! In the day time the boys rented scooters and i sat on the back (slightly s***ting myself) we went round the island, riding up mountain tracks by the sea. The views were amazing, it's hard to even believe what I'm seeing when it's happening, best way to see Thailand. We even drove past elephants just chilling in someone's back garden, then we went to see this famous waterfall but it has been so hot it had all dried up. We then went to this huge street food market, where I had the most incredibly tasty spicy pork and rice dish. However The next day, day of the full moon party I woke up to find that I had food poisoning, I was throwing up non stop, and my stomach had the worst shooting pains.I was so gutted that it was the one night I Just couldn't miss!! So like the trooper I am I told myself to power through went and bought some sickness tablets, slept and woke up just in time to get ready and drink vodka (I actually don't know how I do it some times). The full moon party itself was insane, never seen so many people In fluorescent colours and body paints. Stretched along a beach covered in lights, fire, dance floors and more buckets of alcohol than is humanly possible. There was even designated sleeping areas for people to pass out before going to party again, we took hours just exploring and when the sun came up at six it was the most Surreal thing. Music every where still, People swimming in the sea, some people just full on getting it on the floor all with the sky lite in a beautiful purple with boats bobbing in the ocean. This is when the dancing started, and then we couldn't stop. There was me sweating, so red faced the sun burning down on me.. The most sun bathing I'd probably done in weeks and b***** Pilates this should be the new form of exercise, we danced right up until they announced the last song at 9am. Not only had I put stayed the full moon party I did it being ill ahh yeh! We then got a lift back with the coolest thai guys I have ever met, they even asked us all if we wanted to go to an after party.. At that time all I wanted to do was sleep. So we sat in the back of there open topped 4 by 4 the metal burning my bum, driving past the most magnificent views it was so surreal. Woke up the same day at 2pm, and obviously what does any sane person do to cure the hangover?! Get back On it we had a pool party at ours sipping on vodka oranges in the pool, it was like something out of a cheesy American movie.
The next day we left for koh Tao, recruiting 3 more guys to our group.. So proper girl pimpin it out at this point. Also known as turtle island and notorious for diving the island is beautiful. There's little laterns that look like jelly fish adorning all the streets which are right along the beach front. We spent alot of our time in this amazing beach side restaurant where you sat on the floor to eat on little cushions. I seriously don't know how ill I back to real life after all this, you had to take your shoes off to in every restaurant and shop you go into but it's actually a really nice touch! In the day time all the boys were diving except me and Jonny so he rented a scooter and we took an adventure exploring the island. We had no idea where we were going but we went right over to the other side of the island, off roading along sandy path ways so steep sometimes the bike couldn't even get up properly and I'd cling on for dear life. However we treaked down to find the most beautiful untouched beach! We went in the water and there were the most exotic fish just even in the shore. Even barracudas and jonny went snorkelling and saw a reef shark, I however had to get out because so many fish were biting my open wounds and it bloody hurt. That's the other thing I am so clumsy as we all well know and my legs and feet are covered in so many cuts and scars now. I've even nearly lost both my big toe nails from tripping up so much. I thought I was going to pass out there was so much blood one night. There was also this massive tall rock island with a rope to climb up so you could jump into the sea. Everything's so chilled and relaxed here, so different from all our safety rules and regulations back in England. We then went and played the sickest game of crazy golf it was such a good course and I whipped jonnys ass much to his annoyance! The night times again were beach party's and watching guys juggle with fire. We then got an over night boat and bus up to Bangkok which was pretty fun except poor Jacob had food poisoning, I swear one of us at some point is ill. We stayed in the coolest hostel ever near kho san called flapping duck, you have to cross a little canal to get there it's 3 pounds a night, so hippie, all made out of wood and like all mis match stuff. I too am turning stupidly more hippie my hairs turning to dreads with out me trying too and I have a wooden stick in my ear (don't ask). We went out in koh San road as it had to be done, however it didnt live up to my hangover 3 expectations although it was still pretty mental. Nik kept thinking he was pulling but turns out they were all hookers some of them even followed him home, but then they expect money ha! The last night with the boys we played get lost in Bangkok, went on a long walk and got stuck on all these thai back streets I was pretty scared I'm not going to lie. But then we found the nicest authentic untouched by tourists thai restaurant and had the nicest food and beer. The boys left me the next morning to go to Cambodia and I'm starting my bus tour up north tomorrow, I was pretty sad cause I've grown close to all of them, they looked after me so much, I've not laughed so hard in ages and not one of them was English which was actually so refreshing.
So here I am now alone, sweating in my little wooden box room with the s***s of course! Cant believe it's been only two and a bit weeks in Asia and I have alot, alot longer to go but I'm excited for the next part of my adventure if its all as good as the past few days its going to be bloody amazing!
