After the usual morning routine we were soon on our way. We got some supplies at the shop stop and Neil treated himself to a coffee as due to lack of gas this morning we'd had no hot drinks. A short ride in the truck and we arrived at a lovely little town called Outjo. Here we got a few more pairs of pants from Pep and enjoyed mooching around.
Breaking up the already short drive we went to a local farm where there are some cheetahs and a leopard. It was awesome to see them up close and to have the opportunity to feed them but it seemed wrong for them to be locked away like they were. We had lunch at the adjoining campsite before getting back into the truck, which moving with the windows open was a welcome relief as it was a scorching hot day. Thanks to Claire and Josh for the wedding gift of feeding these fabulous animals.
It was then only 30 kilometres into Etosha National Park to our camp site. It's a stunning campsite with a big swimming pool and its own watering hole for the wild animals to drink at. I cooled off in the pool before we had a 2 hour game drive in the truck with Ruan. We saw lots of animals and birds but the event of the day was sitting at the watering hole. It was amazing - we saw elephants, rhinos and giraffes all taking an evening drink. It was magical and felt just like a stage show as one group of animals moved off stage, another group came on. We loved sitting here both before and after dinner but I eventually had to give in and go to bed - my body clock is now set for early mornings not late nights!
It was nice to not have to pack the tent up this morning due to us staying here for 2 nights. We had breakfast and then set off on a full day's game drive in the truck. We again were lucky to see so many animals - elephants, giraffes, antelope, a snake, a turtle, lots of oryx and hyenas.
We stopped at the Etosha Pan which is a big while salt plain - it was a striking sight and we enjoyed taking some silly photos here. We had lunch at a different campsite and I enjoyed the opportunity to cool down in the swimming pool.
Back in the truck we headed back to camp and were so lucky with what we saw on the drive back. We passed a watering hole with a huge herd of elephants including babies, drinking and washing. A short drive later and we saw some lions relaxing under the tree in the shade - it was brilliant.
Back at camp we cooled off in the pool before climbing the tower to enjoy the view. We spent some more time at the watering hole again before and after dinner simply enjoying watching the animals. It was a perfect few days here, and I felt so lucky to have the watering hole on our doorstep - amazing.
The next morning, we smiled through one last game drive in the Etosha National Park as we left the area. We again stopped in Outjo where I picked up some aqueous cream for my dry skin. Namibia is the driest place I have been making me have sore and cracked skin on my hands and feet and flaky skin on my legs and arms - really not nice at all!
Lots of love xxx
