Hola all,
So we all got back from our horseriding/mountain biking with sore bums and glowing faces but it was well worth it! We had to cycle uphill very steeply for quite some time at the start and I can honestly say I think my heart was going to come out of my chest. I blame the altitude/ heat/ steepness oh yer and perhaps the fact that I haven´t been most active since the marathon. But luckily the rest of the tour wasn´t as bad with many gradual inclines showing breathtaking views of the city with their pristine white buildings and red roofs. I read in the guide book that they have a regulation here to white-wash their bulidings every year and that they aren´t allowed neon lighting. I have to say it does make a big difference and it is consequently a beautiful city.
Yesterday we had a bit of a lazy day. We decided we should all dress up to go out on our last night in Sucre. Some of us girls decided we wanted to be cave girls. So off we went trapesing around Sucres beautiful markets in search for some cave girl material (preferably fur to keep us warm). It wasn´t until one of the last stalls that we found some silk-like leapord print material of which we bought a metre each to make our costumes, along with some safety pins and brown eye-liner...we were gonna look goooood!
Walking around the markets seeing so many old ladies sat on the floor trying to sell their fruit/meat/jewelarry did really make an impact on me because they all just sit there staring into space with lifeless expressions on their face. Again it made me realise how lucky we all are that we don´t have to struggle for a living sitting on a cold floor wrappped in blankets trying to sell anything to be able to afford to eat.
But on a more positive note, we all got dressed up last night with the leapord print wrapped around ourselves, dirt marks all over and BIG BIG hair. Even good old Tom got into the spirit and dressed up (not sure EXACTLY what he was meant to be) but he looked scary all the same. Off we went in our costumes to a steakhouse outside the town...yes we enterted the restaurant in our full outfits to be stared at by many confused bolivians. I think many off them thought we dressed up for independence day because we got asked whether we wrre going to let off any fireworks. Instead our tour leader told them it was my birthday (which it is pretty soon!) so that they didn´t hink we were totally crazy. It got me a free piece of cake thoough so hooray to Paul. Most of us salivated over our beautifully tender 300g steak for a mere 3 pound 50...I really could get used to these prices!!
We ended the night in a random bolivian club, which started off dead as we got their at 11 but was soon heaving by about 1 o´clock. here we danced to old school tunes, some newer stuff and of course good old bolivian tunage!! Again a brillaint fun-filled evening! After about 6 hours slepp we dragged ourselves out of bed just in time for the last 5 mins of breakfast because we needed to fill ourselves up on the delicious fresh fruit and amazing scrambled egg for the day ahead. Today I think we shall be enjoying the sunshine and stocking up on food for our 14 hour overnight bus jouney to cochabama (or suomething liek that anyway!) This will be an interesting experience with no toilet or heating on board.
So more adventures will follow. Ciao for now xx
