Hello All,
Well since this is my last day in Thailand I thought I would attempt to update my blog a little bit and give you some tales behind some of my FB pics!!
So When I last left you I had arrived in Koh Tao with Laura. So we got to the island late afternoon with everyone and got piicked up at the pier by DJL who was our dive company, jmuped on the back of the truck and went to our home in Koh Tao. We had a hut not quite on the beach but in a good loaction, saldy without air con though, but we did have a hammock!!
After a wander round to get our bearings we had a few drinks on the beach and a bit of a meal before calling it a night awaiting the arrival of Nicci to do our dive course.
June 13th - Nicci was supposed to arrive at 8:30am, which in Thai time is plus 3 hours to pretty much everything!! So when she finally got there we had a catch up, a wander round, some grub and a bit of tanning. After that we of course decided to get drunk to celebrate her arrival. After knocking a few back in the bungalow we hit a few bars and a plan to get something to eat. I was however forced to go out in a tigh dye vest top (not a dress people) for the evening for a bit of a laugh, I think I carried it off well!! We went to Choppers for some food and I have to say it could well have been the worse meal I have had in Thailand or since I left home and none of us could finish it. So after Laura did a bit of complaining to the boss we managed to get 50% off the bill. Hit another bar for some games of jenga and getting alot more drunk.
Eventually we hit the Lotus Bar on the beach for some dancing and I bumped into a few guys from Londonderry who claim to know Amanda my friend from home!! Small world and all that. After that our memories become slightly sketchy!! I know we only live 5 mins from the Lotus bar but ended getting lost along the beach and decided to do a bit of skinny dipping!! After eventually finding our way back the right way we all pretty much crashed out in a drunken haze and ready for our dive course to start the next day!!
Next day I think it would be fair to say we were all hungover a little bit, so ate brekky and chilled by the pool until the course started.
The started our theory at 2pm and this is were we met the latest travelling buddy Lucy a very funny girl from Oxford. We also met our instructor Luke who seems alot older than he is and didn't seem to have much craic about him!! We just about made it through the theory and the subject turned to the girls favourite subject of food so we headed over the road and all got beans on toast with cheese and they actually had HP sauce and English breakfast tea, so we were all very happy!!
I went up to Thai art with the girls to check out getting a tatto done. The guy is meant to be the best in Thailand and Avi from Miami Ink got his done there when in Thailand, so if it's good enough for that bald p****it is good enough for this one. Think we must have annoyed the hell out of the guy because we were in there for ages and asking loads of questions. Looks like we are all getting one now!!
That night everyone was shattered so we just got pizza and watched Hangover 2 in the pool bar, very funny film but not as good as the first.
Next day was all the pool work and it took a little bit of time to get used to it, but we got there in the end and we all finished the pool work no problem. Kinda gutted to find we had to do an exam though, after doing loads more theory in the afternoon, but couldn't argue doing it around a pool on a gorgeous day!!
Went back to the tatto guy again and annoyed him!! Like the look of mine knew then I wanted to get it done.
After that went for a lovely Mexican and a few beers before heading over to see the ladyboy cabaret show, was a bit of a laugh.
June 16th was the first day of us diving in the sea and have to say I loved it and had a good laugh with the group. Got to see some lovely fish (don't ask me to name em!!) and the time seemed to fly by. I hope I can keep the diving up down the line because it is alot of fun.
Once again annoyed that poor tatto guy!! Sadly the bamboo tattooist isn't going to be back so decided to get it done with the needle instead and booked it for the night of the 17th after the diving course is complete.
June 17th was the last day of our diving course and today we were getting filmed for one of those cheesey video's so wasa bit cringeworthy, but the videographer Jessica seems a nice girl. Once again the dives were alot of fun, sadly we didn't get to go through the cave though because we came off the line slightly off cantre and just missed it. But we did see a turtle and got to dive with that for a little bit. Whilst we were watching it though i managed to get attacked by 2 huge trigger fish, much to the amusement of my fellow divers!!
When we got back it was the exam and am surprised that I managed to get 94%!! Actaully I'm not considering it wasn't under any exam conditions and we were all helping each other with the questions!! I do however fell I helped with the most questions!!
So obviously after passing me and my fellow graduates decided to celebrate. We got dressed and met in the pool bar for a few drinks and to watch our dive video. I had no intention of buying it but have to admit Jessica did a great job and ended up buying one!!
After a few drinks we seperated and went and got our respective tattoo's!! I got my done the same time as Nicci and the girls went to a different place and got bamboo one's done. I have to admit I don't recall it being quite that painful and thought my back fat might have helped, but it did not and hurt like a b*****!! But we got through it and went to see the girls getting their's done and think we were all happy with the reaults. In case anyone in wondering I got 'life is a daring adventure or nothing' in Thai put on my lower back and yes I did get it double checked and triple checked, it does so that, promise!!
So after that we all decided to celebrate and headed out for a nice Italian meal and a bottle of wine. We must have been drunk because Nicci convinced me to sreal the slat and pepper shakers as well as the ash tray!! But think we were all done in and headed home to bed.
June 18th was the last day on the island and sadly the weather was quite bad, so we packed, checked out and spent the day in the pool bar playing cards waiting to get the night ferry. We got slightly drunk and we trying to change our ticket to Phi Phi so we could stay out, but it didn't work and we headed off to the night boat.
This was a very strange experience, the boat was wooden and was basically one massive mattress that who have a tiny pice of to sleep on. Once again valium rode to the rescue and slept quite well in the end. The boat dropped us off in Thong Sala at 5am, before been taken to a cafe and watched Jackass on tv, before we had to get on another bus to Krabi. After an hour then waiting in Krabi we got on the ferry to Koh Phi Phi.
Now if anyone has been to Thailand and never made Koh Phi Phi I have to ask why??? This place is stunning and the closest thing to paradise I have seen. Plus they do cheap buckets!!
The place we booked is right in the heart of it all and a nice room. We all have to shae 3 beds pushed together but it seemed to work.
Once again we decided to have a wander round the island and then get stuck into some drinking!! So after all ringing home for Fathers day we got stuck in good style to the buckets and cheap booze. Sadly Laura did not respect the buckets and had to be put to bed around 8pm!! Myself, Nicci and Lucy continued on without her to the beach for some buckets down there and a bit of raving and misbeahving. Lucy managed to find some kitten which she fell in love with and wouldn't leave alone even to do shots!! No idea what time we got home, but after scoffing some dirty kebabs on the way home a good night was had by all.
June 20th - so we were all a little rough round the edges today, proved by the fact that Nicci walked out the room door looking for the loo whcih was next to her bed!! I had promised to do the burger challenge at Reggae, Reggae' bar and am disgusted to admit that I failed miserably, sorry everyone!!
We spent the rest of the day on the beach and booked a half day snorkelling tour for June 21st. The beach here is gorgeous and love it.
That night we decided more drinking was needed and to watch some Thai boxing. So after a few buckets in the Irish Bar we hit 'Reggae,Reggae' again and watched soem decent fights. Teh funniest one's were when they let the Westerner's get in there and fight it out!! Thankfully I resisted the urge to get in and have a go myself. Once again we seemed to get drunk pretty quick!! But we were all having fun. I went to go the bank to get more money out and the machine declined my card so spent the next few hours drunkenly skyping the bank and having a go at them!! The girls seemed to have a good night without me though somehow!!
Next day we had to be up handy to go on the half day tour. It as a struggle getting everyone up and motivated but manged it in the end and were only a half hour late!!
The boat wasn't quite what we were expecting, especially hungover!! But we got onboard and visited monkey Island, were you can feed wild monkeys, the girls loved it. Went to Shark Point to snorkel, sadly no sharks and a couple of other good snorkel points, but didn't go in to try and protect the tattoo which isn't fully healed yet. We had lunch and a snooze on bamboo island before heading to the Viking Caves and then this stunning cove that looked like halong Bay. The last stop was Maya beach were they filmed 'The Beach', after a treachorous swim and climb up this rope net whilst been splashed by waves we finally made it. I have to admit it was quite stunning and gutted I never had me camera. After risking life and limb to get back the boat we headed back to Phi Phi at sunset.
Once again we were all quite tired so hired a DVD player after dinner and watched 'Social Network' or should I say I did because all the girls fell asleep!!
So today is my last day in Phi Phi and Thailand before heading to the Perhenthian Islands in Malaysia for what I am sure will be a ballache of a journey!! But Thailnd, I have loved and hated you all at the same time and can only say that if bangkok wasn't part of you I would have loved it all. Hoping Malaysia is as much fun.
So next time I blog I will be in another country. Hope you enjoy this one again and I'll be in touch soon,
Mup
