Headed off to the famous Spis castle built in the 12th century as an aristocratic residence rather than a fortification. It burned down in 1780 and had deteriorated since although quite a bit of restoration work has been done since being added to the UNESCO list in 1993. Packed up and left our apartment in Krakow and headed for the Salt Mine at Wieliczka about 15 km away. Did the guided tour which was compulsory as you can't wander by yourself for obvious reasons. It started with walking down to 65m (52 flights of stairs). That was level one and we finished at level three which was 135m deep. The actual mine is 7km by 5km so we only saw a fraction of it.
