The comparison with India is inevitable, however, there are a number of differences between those two countries, those two cultures…
The people in Nepal were very friendly, and were always trying to help us without wanting us to buy from their shop ;) We immediately noticed the chill attitude of the locals, and that maybe explains why Nepalese are the founders of the hippy culture ;) And while discussing with them we could also recognise how proud they are of their Gorkha warriors!
The food was meaty and alcoholic ;) After 3 weeks of Indian alcohol-free vegetarian meals, we were finally tasting some local Yak meat (and cheese!!!) and could enjoy some fresh Nepalese beers!
The landscape was very beautiful and diverse: from the flat lands of the border with India, to the hilly Kathmandu Valley until the mountains of the Himalaya. Sometimes the green was so intense that we were wondering if we were in Nepal or already back in Switzerland! Although, the marvellous landscape, the lack of good infrastructure was visible in several occasions…we will never forget all the bumpy roads we had to travel through!
All in all we really liked our short stay in Nepal. We will come back for sure one day!
