10.12.-13.12.10
Sucre / Bolivia
On the 10.12.10 I took the night bus from LA PAZ to SUCRE. The trip took around 12 hours but at 4am in the morning the bus broke down in the middle of nowhere. After the bus driver realized that he wasn't able to fix the problem he called the bus company in order to send a replacement. After 2 ½ hours we were still waiting in the "pampa".
There was only one other tourist on the bus…Harry from Florida. Harry was quite happy when I offered him one of my "palta sandwiches" and together we tried to work out plan B. After 3 hours we decided to "hitch hike "to Potosi which was only 30 Minutes away in order to take a different bus from there. And we couldn't believe when the replacement bus turned up in front of us just after we pulled out our thumb. Puuhh…..so we were actually quite lucky that we didn't get a lift as that would have taken us even longer to get to Sucre.
Straight after Harry and I have checked in to the nice hostel "Pachamama" I went to the city centre where I decided to get a haircut. Later on I did a bit of sightseeing through the city with it's dazzling whitewashed buildings. I really liked SUCRE and would have loved to do another Spanish Course here but as I had booked my flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia on the 25.12.10 I had to continue with my journey.
The stunning city of Sucre has a rich colonial heritage and numerous of churches and with a population of 215.800 inhabitants. Sucre is the official capital of Bolivia even though that the seat of the government is in LA PAZ !!!
