Sunday 20th May
We woke up and checked out, I had found something had enjoyed eating me last night, and it wasn't mosquitos. Damn bed bugs, never been bitten before my initial reaction was that it was so itchy…all the time! I would rather be eaten by mossies than bed bugs. I counted over 100 bites, with 50 on my right leg and 20 on my face including my eye lid and cheeks. I was not a happy bunny and experienced my second dosage of homesickness; the first was when I had been bitten by sand flies in Sihanoukville. My tiger balm was kept close at all times ready to cover myself in!
We found a new hostel to check into in Nha Trang and checked the map so we had an idea of where we needed to go! We waited for our bus to arrive, which in Asia time; it could be up to 30 minutes late. Today it was two minutes early! We jumped on and settled down for the journey. We stuck along the coast line for most of the way, weaving in and out along the coastal path, taking the corners a little too hard in my opinion!
We arrived at the bus station and started the walk from the bus stop, which was seemed miles out, it was 6 pm and still boiling hot so when we arrived at the hostel we were both drenched! We checked into our room called the 'lovely girl' very fitting for Stu!
Monday 21st May
We woke up early and had our breakfast which was included in the price. It was yummy! We then headed out to find this company that the guys recommended us, we couldn't find it. We did ask for prices at a couple of the other dive shops, but they only did the tour when they had other divers booked on. Disappointed we headed to the beach and hired a sun lounger for the day, it was way too hot to be in the sun even at 9:30 am!
We both dozed in and out of sleep and jumped in the water for an hour, trying to avoid a rouge boat sailing too close to the swimmers. They had no clue how to steer this thing!
We retreated back to the main land to find some lunch, we returned to the hostel to do some planning for our next destination, Hoi An. We also had a scout around for reputable dive companies and manage to find somewhere that had a trip going out tomorrow so we booked us in to go snorkelling.
We showered and went foraging for food! We found a good burger place and munched into our food. We headed down the street in search of a watering hole and bumped into a few people we met in Nha Trang and had a few drinks. They both recommended going on a snorkelling trip so we decided to get up early and try and book it for that day.
I had to go back to the hostel as the bites were getting irritated by the heat and trying not to scratch was proving to be a harder challenge. Something Stu doesn't understand as he seems to get ignored by everything, I am not impressed with this at all!
We left later and an earlyish sleep ready for our wake up call.
Tuesday 22nd May
We walked to the dive shop and waited for our van to pick us up and take us to the port. We jumped on board and were welcomed with tea and coffee and we enjoyed the pleasant journey out to our first site.
We had a quick introduction about the site and where were the best places to swim; we put our gear on (life jacket for Stu!) and jumped in! The water was really clear, about 10-15m visibility and a lot of fish life around us. We saw plenty of clown fishes, giant puffer fishes (deflated!) and cuttlefishes! It was brilliant, we jumped back on board and stuffed our faces with egg sandwiches while we waited for the other divers to join us and move to our next site. We jumped in and swam around for a while following the fish!
We left the dive site after an hour and headed back to land, to enjoy our free lunch (at 2 pm!) It was delicious! We headed back to town and had a shower to get rid of the salt! We had learnt (from other people's mistakes) to sun cream ourselves up before snorkelling, as most people get burnt bums. No burnt bums, but more brown that this morning! Sorry mum!!
We ventured out again when it came closer to dinner and then found another bar to sit and play cards. We settled for a bar that gave our free shots (very watered down shots!). We started playing a new game, speed, which is all about reaction. Stu was getting angry that he kept losing! We picked up a lot of attention from the staff who were fascinated at how much concentration we had!!
Wednesday 23rd May
We had a lie in and pack up our things and did a bit more research for our next stop. We had to wait for our bus at 7 pm and we sheltered from the sun and stayed in the hostel.
We left the hostel and walked to the bus company to wait for the bus, which as normal, were late! We had an 11 hour sleeper bus; we located our seats, top berth, and tried to settle in for the night. We still followed the coastal road to Hoi An which was extremely bumpy and I was pretty sure I got some air during the night and nearly got ejected from my seat too! I think this is where I got my bruises from on my knee!
Sleep was difficult and very broken, I was not looking forward to arriving in Hoi An at 6 am with little sleep!!
