My European Escapades
The next morning we set out for Krakow where we received a full tour of the city. We saw LOTS of churches and cathedrals (Poland is REALLY Catholic), including the cathedral where JPII was ordained and where St. Stanislaus is laid to rest. There are bones hanging from a chain outside the church that the locals swear up and down belong to the dragon that used to live under Wawel Castle. I looked at the bones, and I don't know what else it could be. We were given a few hours to wander about the city square, the largest in all of Europe. I did almost all my shopping for things to take home before enjoying (for the first time in my life) a horse-n-buggy ride with three of my girlfriends. We took the opportunity to wave at cute Polish boys, most of whom are very share and hard to get to smile. We got a little Polish boy to give us the finger, THAT was fun. That afternoon we travelled to the Shrine of Divine Mercy, which was erected after the death of St. Faustina, who had visions of Jesus around the time of WWII. That night we hung around outside in a cloud of tobacco smoke (pretty much all the guys bought pipes, including Father Dave who offered me a puff on his. Crazy priest!). We had a spontaneous praise and worship session up on the hill where the Marian grotto was located. There was a woman praying there who sat listening to us the entire time, crying. As we left she got up and started talking in (I think) Italian... she said "Bravo" a lot. It was an awesome night.
