Haggling in Manila…
I got my first taste of haggling today and Stacey liked it!
Ok yes, I will admit just like all foreigners I do (already) have a but-I-got-ripped-off-and-thought-I-was-getting-a-bargain story though I will tell you all about that in person because I feel the story deserves a live audience… :P
A lovely lady from work, Mylene, my mother over here, took me shopping at Greenhills shopping centre. It is an indoor, air-conditioned market so you get all the chaotic haggling and crowds with air con :)
Greenhills is the eppi-centre of pearls. South sea pearls, fresh water pearls, North sea pearls and fake sea pearls, they have them all! However all the material I have read on Greenhills says that the pearls are legitimate, but you just never know over here.
I was unsure how much money to take and by consequence ran out of money but not before scoring LOADS of beautiful pearls, fake Ray-Ban sunglasses, perfume and a souvenir Philippines shirt (it's not as lame nor ugly as it sounds).
After a marathon shopping expedition we caught a taxi home and I honestly do not think I will ever get use to the driving over here! At home my mum freaks out when I drive around at 40km in my little Suzuki Swift, she would have a heart attack if she saw how the cab drivers drive over here.
Not to Self: Only drive in taxis if I have too!
Tomorrow is the Black Nazarene Procession and it is meant to be chaotic- can't wait to experience it!
From Manila lots of love,
Stace
