After a sleeping pill, 10hrs later we were woken buy the crew who informed us that we docked an hr ago, hahah good sleep though. As we got off the boat it was rain so we slid on the marble floors with our thongs carrinf our heavy bags. This could of been fun without our bags and the possibility of landing on our bums.
We felt lost and homeless. We had no idea where to go , but some old British man helped us out and shouted us a coffee while telling us the stories of his Zadar and when he backpaked around Europe. We nodded and smile as we drank out free coffee. bless his little cotton socks. P.S the word FREE to us is like Gold . FREE is the best word when your travelling
Our British man informed us that the travel angencies have information about private rooms for rent so we investigated. We ended up hiking up five levels of the tallest building in Croatia where a crazy happy Croatian opened his doors to us. It was homely and and easy going apartment. He talked a little to much but a nice guy who didnt work, just went to the beach and smoke his cigretts.
The town was beautiful. Apparently it was older than Rome but no one really knows. the streets were lined with marble (a health hazard when wet) and It was full of fresh fruit and fish markets, old runis and a one of the iconic circular churche. We ended up staying two nights because we loved it so much. We ate 5 Kuna (which was about 70 cents) icereams each day, while sitting on the musical steps by the waters edge. The stairs were like a wood wind instrument where waves pushed water into pipes under the stone stairs. Such a random and amazing sound. Never see anything like it before.
We ended up catching a 4hr bus from Zadar to Split. The bus ride huged the coats and took us through tiny villages placed along the seas edge. It was so beautiful. i did want to go to another big city, these little villages looked so peaceful i wanted to get off the bus. But we had to be in Split to get on our Croatia Sail.
Spit was nice, also filled with markets except they were also of clothes and bags. So we brough a sarong so we could fit into the sailing beach scenery. We ate out and had our first real meal in a long time. We ate meat of course as we were deprived of it for so long and god it was good. We had to of course follow it with another 5 kuna icecream. ahahha now whats that 4 in a row or maybe 5. Off to bed with full bellies and ready to get on our boat the next day.
