In essence, today is our first full day in Hobart and what should we do on a Saturday, but head to the markets.
And OMG!! what markets, what an experience!!!
We arrived at what we thought was early. The markets open at 0830hrs and we were there around 0900hrs. I could not believe just how packed it was at that hour. The feel, the vibe, just being there was beyond belief. I don't think I have ever been to a market that had such a........... there really is no way to describe it......
If anyone thinks the Queen Vic markets are amazing, then you truly are kidding yourself!!! The variety was outstanding..... No two stalls exactly the same in the same vicinity, and even then there was definitely no duplicates.
It was very difficult not to buy everything we saw and liked. We did contain ourselves to spending under $1000...... Not quite sure how we are going to get home - but thankfully our ferry trip is prepaid..... LOL
To be serious, the Salamanca Markets are a sight to behold and experience. We spent an easy 3 hours just wandering aimlessly through the markets and probably only covering 3/4 of it.
We did give Saffron a special treat, by going to the Faery Cave in one of the arcades. The staff there were exceptional - they dressed as faeries and even have faery names. Faery Sugarsnap even took time to read/make up a faery story just for Saffron. She got faery sparkles on her cheeks and in her hair. Saffron was absolutely spellbound by it.
It was lunch time by then, and there was not one food stall that we could all agree on. So Saffron had the "Smallest Pancakes" - Danish pancakes with ice cream and chocolate syrup, Selwin had a lamb burger and I had a gypsy roll. Everything we tasted literally bursted with flavours in our mouths. There was nothing with no flavour, taste or texture.
This going to be a very hard place to beat!!!!
