DO IT TO IT
we finally got internet access! we could've had it before but we're too cheap to spend £5 for 30 minutes. and there was a lot of problems charging our laptop blahblah. but we have it now! I almost died going without it for so long. so here's a recap of the past few days:
Monday: canada is boooooring. even "the tallest structure in the world" can't save america's hat. layovers suck.
Tuesday: harrod's is overrrated. and they don't allow you to carry backpacks on your back. the little security men are very polite about it, but it's still ridiculous. they have a krispy kreme on site, so they lost points there too. their turkish delight is covered with coconut, not powdered sugar! bogus! I was so excited to see it in the case cause I had just watched chronicles of narnia and it looked delicious in the movie. but no. coconut is the bane of my existence. we then went to the british museum and I had meant to see specific pieces that I had read about in my art history classes, but I forgot which ones and upon just browsing the museum, didn't find whatever it was I was looking for... then we hopped on a train for newcastle at king's cross, where we found platform 9 & 3/4! when we got there we tried to find some food to eat. and our hotel just so happened to be lined with lots of bars. gay bars. and if you see a sign that says "food served all day" it's crap cause they stop serving at 6 pm. how the hell do people eat at night in this country?
Wednesday: GIRLS MOTHER f***IN ALOUD. I can't even explain how good they were. and I have high standards. blew my mind. I'd go on but nobody cares enough to humor me about them.
Thursday: rented a car to drive to scotland. since drivers are on the right side of the car, you'd think the stick shift would have 1st gear nearest to them right? reverse the stick just like the driver is reversed. but it's not and it doesn't make any sense. and it confuses me. luckily I don't have to drive! haha well maybe I'll take a stab at it later.
Friday: we walked up all 300 or something steps of this monument to get a really nice view of the city. um that's about it. we walked around this big shopping district and I'm so proud of us for not spending a lot of money. most of our money has gone towards food, which is how things should be. not even particularly good food, but the dollar sucks and everything is expensive here. they have their own version of wal mart here and it's right across from our hotel. they've got some interesting things... including a crab spread for sandwiches.... wretched...
and some other notes about the UK:
- they've got and actually use way too many different coins. is a 2 pence one really necessary?
- the close door buttons on elevators really do work!
- the pigeons are gross and fat
- their tv shows are boring. and really addicting....
- it's COLD. and muggy. and grey. and since we packed for summer, we tried looking for jackets to buy. but all the stores are having summer sales!
- the sun doesn't go down til well past 10.
it doesn't sound very exciting so far but we're having a good time and I'm rushing cause I'm afraid the computer will turn off any second, as it has been doing lately. hopefully we'll post pictures soon.
and another girls aloud date tomorrow!!!!!!!
