Dry and sunny morning. D walked all of 300 m to the cashpoint, and needed another shower! Met same bus driver as yesterday, who offered to take us to the bus station for Chanthaburi. Was expecting a "proper" bus, instead, were loaded onto a minibus for the expected 2 hour journey. An hour later, drove through the first of several stretches of flooded (main) road. Bus stalled at least 3 times, and it seemed inevitable that at some point we would have to get out and push! Rescued half a dozen people from another bus that had met with our expected fate, so latter part of the journey was very cramped, with children on our knees, and bags packed up to our ears!
Reached Chanthaburi to find out that the "Riverside Hotel", was, in fact, by the side of a river - a very flooded river! Had to wade through knee deep water to reach the lobby.
Small room - 2 beds; own bathroom - not as nice as the previous place! Went out to explore the town, after a shower and a beer, town centre streets flooded for 100m from hotel. Waded in places there weren't pavements, until got to incline, and floods subsided. Great, cheap, Thai meal in the restaurant that was probably the one mentioned in the guide book - had the suggested Vietnamese spring rolls and crab with local fried noodles.
Tried to walk back to hotel via French Cathedral, but street was too flooded, and locals were warning us not to try to get too close. J stumbled and half fell over, M scratched her foot, and thought that she saw a scorpion (probably a twig)! Eventually got back to hotel, wet, tired and all a bit stressed!
After a restorative shower and change of clothes, went downstairs to get a drink, only to discover that there was no beer, as the staff had not been able to get to the market, today, due to the flooding!
All in all, decided that staying somewhere called the "Riverside" probably wasn't a great idea, during a flood!
Quick use of hotel's PC's to check emails, then up to bed.
Then it started to rain.
