Hey guys, the website is awesome and it looks like you have figured out how to work your fancy camera Shmings! The pics are awesome, I especially like the 2 cats in the plant pot, keep them coming.
Bob, I found this the other day and thought of you guys.
" We travel, initially, to lose ourselves, and we travel, next, to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accomodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and our knowlegde, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again -- to slow time down, to get taken in, and to fall in love once more. We need sometimes to escape into the open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life, to taste hardship, and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment at no matter what. Travel guides us toward a better balance of wisdom and compassion -- of seeing the world clearly, and yet feeling it truely." --- Pico Iyer, from his essay "Why We Travel".
We miss you stax.

The Pirries Including The Gnu
Hi Ings and Rob,
Hey been reading all about it - sounds bloody glorious. We are back to london now for next 3 months and leaving in June only - looks like we are shipping the Gnu to Kenya as work opportunities and this house sale has screwed everything up for us. So chickening out of Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia and starting south of the 'worst road in Africa' so maybe we can catch up with you. We can focus on the best bits. and of course we just can't miss the wedding!
Have fun
love us

Hi Ings and Rob - absolutely brilliant reading...your website keeps me going when I'm up at all hours feeding Mr Harvey Junior and it's a bit like having my very own real life novel to read! How exciting! Sounds like everything is going well so far although I felt for you and Cathey when you had the battery blip in Spain. Keep updating whenever you can - it is great to hear all your news. Ings - will email too!
Lots of love - fee, adam, hannah and harry xx

Battery problems ? I shall dive to the defence of Cathey and risk libel by insinuating user error !
He he ... Anyway I'm sure I said to change the battery before leaving !!!!!!! Job done now anyway ...
Full and detailed explanation on the e-mail, but it does indeed sound like you exercised the "fail safe" built into the auxilliary system. By frying the relay, the inverter ipod etc. were protected from the starting amps, however as you probably noticed all the factory fitted electrics (lights horn etc.) carry on working.
Sounds like you've got it sorted anyway, just remember only to turn the aux charge switch on when the engine is warm and you've settled in to a long drive !

Hi,
We are thinking about crossing around april from Niger into Algeria. We dont have a visum or a guide yet. We saw your posting on sahara overland and would like to join you if possible? Is that a option? We are in Marrakech at the moment and are planning on staying here for 4 days.
We haven,t got a visum yet. We need an invitation of a travel agency in Algeria. Can you help us with that to?
