So the travel preparation is off to a cracking start! Not only have I not yet packed for a spontaneous 2 month trip to Singapore, but I was very close to leaving without my bank cards, driving license and wallet. Half an hour ago, whilst stuffing the contents of my suitcase in the washing machine, I was interrupted by the doorbell and opened it to find a confident lady and her dog. She insisted on coming inside and before I had the chance to decide if she was a crazy rando or not, she was standing in the hallway. "I have a message for Sophie Rose Kitchen" she announced as if she were presenting to medieval royalty, and held a yellow post it note in the air for all to see (see attached photo). Mum was looking about as impressed as the exhausted border terrier who stood like a lump on the owner's very short leash. She went on to explain that she had heard, down the grapevine of about five people, that my wallet had been found and that I should call 'Andrea'. I was totally surprised and slightly in disbelief as i'm usually paranoid about that kind of thing. Mum was now looking even more unimpressed but was grateful to the messenger lady and offered her a bottle of wine. I tracked down this Andrea, who turned out to be lovely and drove to her home on Kingston Road. In her hallway, we exchanged a leather wallet for another bottle of wine and I went on my way with my wallet safely tucked into the trusty coat pocket that it had previously fallen out of. Faith in humanity restored. Not the composed and prepared daughter that Mum was hoping to send off for her first job abroad.. But what do you expect- I booked the flight Yesterday and I leave tomorrow!
