Hi everyone, Hope your all well and had an amazing christmas and New Year! We are skipping forward a little Em still has to write the last few weeks in Oz but i know that mum and dad want to kno what i've been up to since then so i'm bloggin now about Asia so far.
I'll start from the beggining we left Oz on the 16/1/11 after staying the last night at Liam's house (thanks again Liam for putting us up) an we went out for a nice big breakfast of eggs at the Gallery (famous in Annandale) then got a taxi to the airport. Liam and Tara took us which was very nice of them and we were all in tears especially Liam .... JOKES!! No one cried! Me and Em were far too excited to be starting the next leg of the journey! We had a 7hour flight to Singapore - no dramas! and when we arrived it was quite late and dark outside so we got a taxi to our hostel - which we had booked ion advanced. We stayed in Footprints hostel in Little India. The location was really goo and Little India was very colourful and smelled amazing with all the curries cooking :) We were only 2 stops out the city on the train so that was perfect. We got an early night the first night to prepare ourselves for our big sitesight seeing day. We woke early and went down for the free breakfast (toast) and then ventured into the city. We did 2open top bus tours before deciding that Singapore wasn't really for us. Amazing city granted an the buildings are mind blowing in shape size and style but the whole city is shopping crazy and me and Em without a spare penny to out name need not be getting involved in the shopping malls! We wandered around a little and then the heavens opened up and pured down golf ball size rain. WE escaped into an internet cafe and booked ourselves onto the the first train to Kualar Lumpur. We went out in Sing. that night for an indian (best ever!) and then for some drinks and a sheesh pipe! The nightlife out there is really good and brought the cities status up a little. There was a bar were you sit in wheelchairs and drink out of a drip like being in hospital it was so funny we nearly died of laughter!
The next morning we went for some food down at Harbourfront then got the bus to KL. The bus journey was nice. The buses are lush and a/c and really comfy so we picked well! We watched out the window as Malaysia passed us by. Arrived in KL in the evening and again had our hostel booked in advance! (Transit Hostel in Chinatown) It was ... well exactly what we pai for tbh! the room was tiny literally 2 beds and there were no windows - kinda weird but cheap so apart from the cabbage toilet (gagging as i'm typing just thinking about it!) the place wasn't bad and honestly chinatown was amazing!!! People everywhere, shops, food, drink, everything and always something going on. The night we arrived we went to the Fish Spa. This is were you put your feet in effectivly a pond and loads of fish nibble at them - its the strangest sensation but really cool and a must if you visit asia! We got slightly carried away in there and I had some reflexology on my feet and Em had a massage (this my english friends was the beginning of many to come) We then went back to organise our live (aka our bags) and then went to sleep in Cabbageville!
We woke early the next morning early to free breakfast (toast) appaz this is a fave in Asian Hostels!!! We got the train to KL Sentral and guess what we did ..... that's right got on the open top bus!!! we did the tour then got of at the KL tower and had a coffee then went to Bubba Gu,p (Em is trying to collect all the glasses and there was one in KL an when i say KL i mean one hour outside of KL in a taxi but she got the glass so mission acomplished) we came back to the hostel and em had a nap and i went to explore chinatown! Took some pictures of the temples etc and wandering round the markets. That night we went out in Chinatown for some noodles and Tiger beer :) We went to Reggae bar for some cocktails and music then went back to the hostel as had to be up early for Batu Caves.
We were lucky enough to be in KL over a Hindu festival all on a pilgrimage to the Batu Caves, we got the train there and were amazed as we wstepped onto the platform the sheer volume of people!! There must have been around 15,000 people there NO JOKE! It was roasting hot and there were people pushing us left right and centre!! Em had 2 henna tatoos and we tried our hardest to walk around! There were people having their head shaved and painte yellow and so there was hair all over the floor and people selling all sort of rubbish it was chaos!!! The train ride home was life threatening but we managed to hack it! After the trauma we encountered we got some food and drink in the Golden Triangle - really cool area were all the shops are and there are loads of restaurants. All in all KL as really ool i loved it i would defo go back and would sa yes to anyone who was considering it. KL gave me my first experience of the squats ... i let you all use your imagination!!
From KL we took a train to Penang. The vue was amazing loads of palm trees and saw loads of slum like houses with about 20 kids in them!!! We got to Penang and caught a Ferry over to Pualu Penang were we were staying. We were in a guest house onh the beach which was amazing to get some relaxing beach time in after lots of city living! The guesthouse was basic but really nice and the owners were lovely. We didn't do too much whilst we were in Penang to be honest just relaxed and ate, drank and read! We went into Georgetown one day but that didn't have a lot to offer although we walked pretty much the whole way round it.
We wet to Langkawi next got the ferry from Penang. It is gorgeous like amazing beaches and hot water crystal clear! We were only there for one day which was fine as we were not staying on the beach so we were not involved in any of the activities! Langkawi is a resort filled placed so lots of couples an familes. Its perfect for couples to stay in all inclusive resort, lay on the beach and just chill for a couple of days but for backpackers not the best.
We got a ferry from Langkawi to Koh Lipe ...Paradise! ALL GOOGLE IT!!! its the nicest place in the world! The sand in white velvet, the sea is crystal clear and the sky is so clear the stars don't look real!!! We have just completly relaxed since we have been here, slept, sunbathed, ate and drank! its perfect!!
That's it for now everyone! Thailand (Koh Lipe) is the fave so far so we are excite to see were we end next
(the plan is to island hop up to Phuket via all the small remote islands) we'll keep you updated
Love to you all miss you lots
All our love
Soph and Em
