On Sophie, Liv and Jess' last day together, they took the train out to Frankfurt Oder: a good hour away, nice ride up throught the beautiful landscape, for some reason it reminded me of north queensland and Atherton.
We went to visit Liv's family friend if you will, Leslie, (Australian, old friend of livs mum felicity) and her german husband Wolfgang, and her mum Shirley, who was so cute and on the most on the ball 90 year old Iv met in a while, so funny. It was a lovely day, we had a really nice lunch (snitzel! Red cabbage!) at their place, and heard many great stories of Liv's grandparents and talked about Australia and travel and life in Germany. Leslie was so sweet, she took us out on a grand tour, in the heavy heat of the day, to see a great view of the Oder (river) and the beautiful countryside, the lake that everyone swims in in summertime, and also in the town centre. She even took us over the border just so we can say we have been to Poland! Pretty damn cool.
I'm so glad we got to meet Leslie and everyone, it was a wonderful day and I'm happy Liv got to see someone so connected with her family, it's an important thing to be able to do. So we had Castletownshend, now Frankfurt Oder, next will have to be Jess' turn to share her family tales I think…Thailand here we come! (I am not joking, I will stalk her there someday) J
