This morning we walked to Shela beach – the more upmarket part of Lamu where apparently lots of expats live. It took us about 45 mins to walk there but it felt like longer as it was so hot and humid with limited shade. A swim in the beautiful ocean was a perfect reward for our walk! We were relatively lazy today. It was a hot night! Andrew Sparkes, manager of bedding at Harvey Norman Midland once told us that a person sweats an average of 500 ml per night. We think we had maybe lost at least 3 litres each! Batu cooked us a delicious farewell Turkish breakfast - menemen - comprising of eggs, skinned tomatoes, chilli and salt scrambled together and served with toast. Batu, Carmen, Willy, Jade, Jayla, Sofie, Sanne, Calvin and Kate rose up early on a cool, dark morning to find the equator. Today we both had a sleep in after last night's late night! With nothing planned for today we played some card games with the other volunteers whilst the power was out again. Later on we walked to one of the malls and had some chicken and chips, from the chain 'Chicken Inn' for lunch (at about 3:00).
