So, after a gruelling 11 hour overnight flight where Kav slept for hours and I didnt, we finally arrived in Bangkok - very tired and therefore emotional and moody!
First night was interesting!! After arriving at probably the only 'nice' hotel we'll stay at for a long time (thank you Kav!) we walked for about an hour through street markets in a considerably high heat for 7 o'clock at night and ended up at MBK, a huge shopping mall/market, had a quick look around then found somewhere to eat. I just about managed to stay awake to eat and so then found our way to the sky train station to take us back home. I never knew Bangkok had a sky train (I compare it to the Disney monorail!!) and it's amazing. It's air conditioned, quick, clean and incredibly easy to use once you get used to it. So 5 mintues later we are back at the sky train station by our hotel, only Kav got us lost and it took us 30 minutes to find our hotel which should only take 30 seconds! Needless to say I flopped into bed and had sweet dreams in a comfy bed for 9 hours!!
This morning I woke up in a much better mood and ready to tackle my first proper day as a 'traveller' (I still hate that term because I just dont suit it!). We had breakfast (a croissant from the 7Eleven opposite) and got the sky train to find a tourist office to book flights to Krabi tomorrow to do some island hopping for a couple of weeks. This will entail laying on a beach all day and occasionally getting boats to take us to more beautiful islands - much nicer than hot, smoggy Bangkok. After booking flights for tomorrow and a beach bungalow for a couple of nights in Ao Nang we then took the commuter boat north up the river past the Grand Palace and other such delights to visit Kao San Road. the incredibly traveller populated part of Bangkok. To be honest, not much to see and far too busy with non-Thai people so we got the boat back south and headed home to the hotel for a well deserved snooze.
Just got back to the hotel (free internet, whoo hoo!!) after a lovely dinner which cost a fiver and having a good night sleep before tomorrow's adventures! Think we're doing some more wondering around before catching a 6.45pm plane down to Krabi.
Catch ya next time xxx
