Me again- Smith is trying to load the photos and it keeps saying failed, he's about to launch the computer out the window!!!
So let us tell you about wonderful OZ! We arrived in Melbourne and our lovely mate Patty (who we met in Vietnam) picked us up from the airport. We stopped in his house, abused his hospitality and ate his food, drank his beer and used his washing machine (bloody tight arse poms). Thanks Patty- you are the best! After feeling really depressed about leaving NZ we had an amzing few days in Melbourne, we loved it there and could really understand why there are so many ex pats! We spent a couple of days exploring this funky little city, met up with Kelvin (our other aussie friend from vietnam) met up with Ian's mate Gill from Rothers and spent our first day in over 2 months on the beach. Although we were very tempted to join the rest of the brits on a day trip to erinsbrough to meet the cast of neighbours- we resisted.
After Melbourne we flew to Alice Springs to explore real Australia the arid desert land of Ayres rock and Kings Canyon. The flight took 3 hours and all you could see below was red sand and more red sand!!! We went on safari and slept in swag bag under the stars. We have never seen such an amazing sight. We lay there under the moon watching the hundreds of shooting stars- so romantic (as you can tell it's Amy writing this). Ian here- yeah it was alright...Anyway had an amazing time apart from the bloody flies! We had to buy a insect net and we looked like we were goverment contamination inspectors!! Anyway we survived the snakes, dingo's and spiders and it was a truly great experience.
From Ayers Rock we flew into Sydney. We spent 1 night in a Backpackers hostel which was horrible. 6 sweaty people in a small room squashed like sardines.. We picked up our camper the day after so all was good. We ended up camping outside Lummers house for nearly a week. She showed us all the sights and asian culinary delights..We ate like kings on a small budget. We went to beaches with no tourists but lots of Jellyfish and I (Ian) got stung by 1 of the bleeders!! We somehow managed to get return tickets for a performance at the opera house (which had been sold out for months), Amy was so happy! So, we glammed up and mingled with non backpackers. We watched a great dance performance and drank champers at the opera house bar-fabulous! We did Bondi beach where we blended in well with the thousands of sun tanned, botox filled, fake boobed, muscly bods on the beach. We opted for salad for dinner after that experience! We are now sitting on the fence with the arguement of which is better Melbourne or Sydney...
We then finally left the comforts of Amanda's car park to head up north and hit the beaches to try and get these pasty bodies a little bit sun kissed. We hit byron bay and Surfers Paradise and sunbathed and in true brit style got typically sunburnt! We then met up with the irish dudes who we met in Alice Springs and tryed to keep up with the irish pace of drinkingwe failed. Not so fun the next morning being woken up by an angry guard dog at 7.30am after illegally parking on the street- we quickly sped off in our jammy's. Who'd have thought a big campervan with the words 'backpacker' branded all over it wouldn't have attracted any attention?
We are now in Noosa, the sunshine state of Queensland in the middle of a cyclone, stranded unable to go anywhere! It was going to be Fraser Island next but that has been emergency evacuated. Where next? Who knows? Your guess is as good as ours. We will of course keep you udated and promise to blog before we return home in 3 weeks- booooooooo!!!!!
Love ya all.
