Hi all,
Just a quick update as we have to check out of our room very soon. Its been a crazy few days. Monday we went sea kayaking which was good but scary. My arms are still in recovery! It was all good until we turned the corner past this island and then it got really choppy. I thought trisha and i were going to capsize. Our pretty but pretty useless guide (or sea monkey as I liked to call him) kept deserting us. In the end up we had to turn back as the sea was too rough. We had been kayaking for 3 hours by then anyway. Suitable for beginners? Nah, don't think so!!
In the afternoon trisha, nicole and i went for a 3 hour walk on the beach. This place is really beautiful but there are crocks to watch out for and a bird that can disembowel you with its claw!! We then collected macadamia nuts to roast and eat and also coconuts from the beach. Nicole headed back to cairns to get her flight and i was sad to see her go.
At night trisha and I went on a night jungle walk. It was very scary and if you asked me to do it again I probably wouldn't!! We saw loads of species including snakes, lots of huntsman spiders, king fisher birds, lizards, insects, and  this marsupial beast that is related to the kangaroo (cant remember the name). I wasnt expecting to go completely into the forest so I was a bit scared as there were snakes on the ground. We were only allowed the torches on when we were walking so as not to disturb the animals. I was falling all over the place and nearly put my hand on a huntsman spider which was resting on the tree. Note to self: when in the jungle at night, don't use trees for balance, that's where the spiders hang out!! I learned alot about the beasts and feel i can cope with them more (well as long as they arent in my bed or anything). When we got back We both went straight to sleep.
yesterday we left cape trib. We went to see a tropical fruit ice-cream place and sampled some of the best ice-cream i have ever had. There was a golden orb spider (i have pictures). Apparently nasa are doing tests on their webs as they are super strong.Â
We then back to mossman and swam in the river. very cold, but nice. We arrived in port douglas at 4pm where we stayed for the night. Went for 2 drinks in one of the local pubs but it was quite expensive so we left soon after. Its anzac day (yes, another bank holiday where everything shuts down). Only the pubs are open today and we are stuck here all afternoon!!Â
Leaving the east coast tomorrow. It's been an adventure and i've enjoyed it but I am glad to be moving on!! Im getting a bit sick of hostels and smelly backpackers. Ready to start work in perth.
Speak to you on the other side of australia!!
Bye
