It was stormy, bitterly the winds howled and the sleet lashed against the window pane, and i, had slept but little, rose at the fisrt light. I got dressed and buckled my armour, setting the green lace about my waist in hopes that its magic would protect me. I had to say my last goodbyes so i said farewell and thanked the lord of the castle. Me and the squire rode off the lord begs him to go no further. Down the path i rode and came to the bottom of the valley. I couldnt see a chapel, but i saw "a rugged cliff above me,and high desolate banks in the distance. But at length he saw, under the dripping trees, a low green mound beside the rushing stream; and i heard a sound as of a scythe upon a grindstone coming from a deep hollow in that mound." which shows a vague setting. It was the Green Chapel when i enter he makes me take off my helmet and get ready for my blow. The Green Knight stroke his first strike and i flinched and he told me not to flinch because when i strook him he didnt move. He smote once more but i didnt tremble or move, the last time he took his stroke he barely cut me, i asked him why i thouht maybe he was scared. He told me the first blow and the second that struck me not they were promises truely kept , for the one kiss and two kisses that his wife gave me in the castle. But the third time i failed him and therefore he wounded me. I had given him the three kisses but not the lace he said he couldnt blame me though because i was trying to save my own life. I felt so ashamed but he told me to keep the green lace in memory of my adventure and return to his castle to end the festival in joy. " I must back to camelot" i said " i may not bide longer. but tell me noble sir how comes this enchantment? Who are you that ride in Green and die not when beheaded? How come you dwell, a noble knight in a fine castle, and aslo to strike axe-blows, the Green Knight of the Green Chapel? which shows my chivalry. He told me that his name is Sir Bernlak and the lady of the lake,Merlin, sent him to Camelot to test us. We embraced and parted with blessings.
