Day 1 continued.
On the flight from Kula Lumpur to Borneo (first leg) I met Dr Zazali. He told me all about the three times he has climbed Mt Kinabalu....
So he got his laptop out and showed me the pictures. He made it look like a WAY bigger challenge than I thought!!! But he is a great guy and he has given me confidence for my climb.
I only met him today be use he forgot his daughters photo I.D for the first flight this morning.
His wife was on the earlier flight so has been waiting for him. Even though it's 30 degrees here I think he might still get a chilly reception! I don't think his wife will stay mad at him for long though.
During our short turn around at the airport I think we met and / or identified the rest of the group.
Lisa owes me a drink!!!
So far Borneo does not look like the wild frontier the trip notes lead me to believe. Most of what we have passed over has been either palm plantations or industry.
Final airport of the day... Miri
I hope the next stop is a shower and bed!
It is!!
There is a briefing at 6 bit it's power nap time for me now!
Miri is pretty quiet. It is a Sunday and the first day of Ramadan. On the fleeting glance we had from the taxi it seems like a fairly typical small Asian town. Lots of construction work, some that started and stopped half way, some really nice places too.
We are staying in the hotel Somerset... I know... All the way to Borneo to stay in faux English named hotel.
It's not 5 star but it is nice. Clean and there was hot water from the shower!!!
We had our group briefing and it's up at 6, breakfast at 7 and internal flight (about 30 mins)
Tomorrow is the cave systems, national park and long house with the head hunter tribes.
We all sat down and had dinner together this evening. It was a nice atmosphere and it says allot for Exodus travel that there are only 4 out of 16 that have not travelled with them before.
