I'm now in Melbourne, got here last night from Canberra. After Brisbane I went to Byron Bay for a couple of days which were spent going out in the evening to the legendary Cheeky Monkeys, and then either doing some walking or lazing around on the beach in the daytime. I went to the lighthouse at Australia's most easterly point. I then got the overnight bus to Sydney and then caught a train up to the Blue Mountains. Left Byron at 4pm and got to the Katoombar Blue Mountains hostel at 9am the next day! Getting good at sleeping anywhere though so I slept for most of the journey. I had 3 days in the Blue Mountains. I've got to say I was actually getting slightly bored of beaches and it was great to get into some proper countryside - big hills, great views etc. I did loads of walking, and last Saturday I did about a 7 hour walk starting in Katoomba and going through the valley to climb Mount Solitary. Got back about 5pm and then got the train to Sydney - except the train was cancelled so I had to get a bus for the first hour and then that was delayed due to some little kids messing about with the emergency glass hammer - ended up having to wait for the police to come, so it was about 8pm by the time I got to Sydney! Had a massive night out with a mate from uni's brother who is living there now. We got back to his house at 7am on Sunday morning... Spent sunday going to watch the Sydney Swans aussie rules team - nowhere near as good as proper football, just organised chaos if you ask me. After that I did the standard sightseeing of the bridge, opera house and then watched the sunset. Stayed Sunday night with some friends from home who are living in Sydney for 6 months. Was up at 5am on Monday to catch the train to Canberra. I wish now I'd looked into getting trains more as the journey was much more enjoyable than being cramped on a bus - more space and a much better view. I had the afternoon in Canberra, went to the war memorial and climbed Mt Ainslie so get some great views of the city. Then on Tuesday I spent all day travelling to Melbourne - 2 hours on a bus then about 7 hours on the train. Got in about 8pm last night. This morning I visited the GKN Aerospace Melbourne site which was really interesting. Going to do a bit of sightseeing round the city this afternoon, then an early night as I'll be up at 4:30am for the champions league final tomorrow morning! Got Thurs and Fri do some some more wandering around, may get the tram out so have alook at some suburbs. And then on Sat morning I am off to Christchurch New Zealand so will be digging out the fleece and hat!
