We arrived in Bangkok a couple of days ago. Its a lot more hectic than Samui.
Our hotel is rubbish, the staff are rude and we have a family of rats running around in the ceiling cavity keeping us awake at night.
The pace of life here is manic on our first night was had a walk up the main street and there are loads of street vendors everywhere, tuk tuk drivers and hoards of people.
On Sunday we took the skyrail to the Chatuchak Market. It was huge, 8000 stalls, shopping heaven!!! We managed to get completely lost for about 5 hours and then found our way back out again. We managed to buy a few things for our travels, Simone did the bartering, Jim still hasn't found his feet yet and bottles it...
We met our tour leader (Sin) and our tour group on the Sunday Evening. We are outnumbered by Australians. Jo (from Canberra), Pat & Jenny (from Melbourne) and Jess from Brisbane, and there is also Aita from Switzerland. We should also have some more people joining our group in Hanoi.
Today we visited the Grand Palace in Bangkok and Wat Pho. Our guide took us on a local bus, which drove away and almost left Pat behind...at the Grand Palace we saw the Emerald Buddha and the old Royal residence which was really impressive, it has a costume which is dependant upon the season. The King comes and changes it, today it had its rainy season costume on. And at Wat Pho we saw a reclining buddha which was about 40 metres long, a sitting buddha and a standing buddha. After the temple we took a water taxi along a really smelly canal back to the hotel.
We are getting an overnight sleeper train tonight to Chiang Mai - should be an adventure.
