So there I was 22 years old and on the way to Texas along with my cousin Martin. We left Austria on the 18th of September and flew to Houston via Amsterdam. Well we had to spend a night in Amsterdam before we took off to the US cause we had booked the cheapest flight. But actually it turned out to be a great evening. Amsterdam is just one of the places to be in Europe and so we hit the bars and coffeeshops and had an awesome time there...
The next morn we were still pretty wasted, but we managed to get to the airport in time just to find out that our flight was delayed. So we had to wait a few more hours but that's travelling, right?
However, we got to Texas around 4pm which equals 11pm CET. But at that point jetlag didn't really matter to me anymore cause I already had comletely lost track of time. In Houston we had to face a new problem. Thanks to Ike (Hurricane) most of the highways leading south were closed. As we were still 200 miles away from our destination, with no possibility of renting a car or taking the bus, all there was left was go an search for another flight that would hopefully take us to Victoria. Luckily we found one but of course we had to wait a few more hours. So again we were sitting in departure but this time in G.W.Bush Intercontinental Airport. (By the way that's not a synonym for Guantanamo Bay)
At 20.30pm we got on the plane to Victoria. Finally!!! I had not slept for about 36 hours and therefor was very happy that our cousin Jen picked us up from the airport. No more cabs, planes or trains, just a comfty Honda Civic and a short ride to VC. At our cousin's we met Omar and Ann (i.e. Jen's parents) As Ann is the sister of Martin's mother I don't think they are actually my uncle and aunt but whatever! It's all family!
