From KL we got a flight (yes we travel in style- no overnight buses for us just yet!) to Phuket and stayed in Phuket town for one night; a pretty boring place, just used as a stop over for people travelling to and from Phi Phi pretty much! However, we found a nice hostel and got a room with hot water and a tv with a DVD player and we rented movies and watched them in bed...nice (Matts chose X-Men 1 and 2- Oh Joy!)
The next morning we got on a boat to Koh Phi Phi which took a couple of hours during which it turned from a gloriously sunny day sitting up on deck getting a tan to a horribly rainy day where we were huddled in a corner trying not to get wet!
However we got their, even if we did look a bit like drowned rats and found a nice place to stay, we were paying more than we wanted but thats the beauty of Phi Phi; they charge you what they like simply because they can!
In total we spent 6 nights in Koh Phi Phi and loved every second of it! Day one was spend coordinating ourselves and finding the beach and shops (of which you couldn't miss because there were about 100 stalls!)
Day two and three were spent mainly on the beach getting a tan because I hadn't had much of that since Tioman where I got a bit pink!
We met a nice group of people which consisted of Sammy who we met on the boat over, Sarah, Liv and Asaf. We pretty much ate out every night and one night in particular found the best place to eat on the whole of Phi Phi- Papaya resturant; nicely tucked away behind the main strip so its not too busy. It did the best and the biggest meals, 6 of us ordered 6 meals and we could have ordered 2 or 3 and they would have filled us all up!
After eating most nights we went to the bars to watch the nightly fire shows which consisted of fire poi (done by the professionals), also fire skipping, fire limbo and ballon popping games, all of which involved the tourists. And at some point every night a few tourists got a bit too big (and drunk) for their own boots and thought that fire skipping was easy and they jumped into the rope and subsequently got burnt, some badly, others just singed but not me, I think that is a very silly idea indeed!
Also during these nights out, at certain times during the evening, whether it be 9pm-9.10pm or 12am-12.10am the bars give away free drinks, from shots to buckets (big big drinks) so if you're clever enough (and by the end of the week we were) you can go out at nine, get 2 free drinks then again at 11 and again at midnight, so in all you don't actually spend any money at all- now thats what I call a good night :)
Another day we decided to do the compulsory round the island boat trip, we chose a sunset kayak tour which also included snokelling and paiod a reasonable 10pounds! The trip took us the monkey beach, we was pretty scary because the monkey were very angry. I can see their point though, I wouldn't like it if 500 tourists a day came wondering onto my territory like they owned the place! On girl got her just deserts as she annoyed the monkeys to the point one of them bit her, not too badly but she certainly learnt her lesson! I knew better and i stayed on the shore (monkeys can't swim) ;) The trip also took us to the infamous Maya Bay where the beach was filmed, it was really nice and quiet because we were their later in the day and we took many a picture! The sunset was amazing too, but they always are.
One of our last days we decided we wanted to walk upto the view point which is one of the 'things to do' in Phi Phi with amazing views of the whole of Phi Phi Don. We aimed to get up early as thats the best time to go as its cooler, but as usual we didn't leave on time and found ourselves walking up a massive hill (which also turned out to be the long way round) at midday- in other words peak heat- brilliant! We made it however and the view was amazing so we took lots of pictures. I had about 3 drinks because I was so hot by the time we got up their, and then we walked down again!
All in all Phi Phi was a great place, we had alot of fun and would definaley go back for a holiday! However it is a bit pricey for the average backpacker and therefore we both spent more than we wanted but hey ho- we had fun and thats all that matters!!!
