Day 19 - 22 Hoi AnWe spent a total of four days in Hoi An in a nice little hotel with traditional furnishings overlooking a rice paddy. This was lucky because for the first two days we were almost stranded in the hotel due to torrential non-stop rain.At one stage it was impossible to cross the road in front of the hotel as it had become a river a foot deep.I think we are pretty relaxed now as we were happy to chill out in our room reading and watching cheesy US movies. We made the odd excursion out into the old town for drinks and food, which is compact and almost stuck in another colonial era.Hoi An has some amazing restaurants and bars to spend the evening hours in.Apparently Mick Jagger ate at the restaurant we were at last night although there was no photographic evidence and I am not sure why this means it is a good restaurant, although the food was very good (mango salad, red snapper, noodles in banana leaves, white wine sangria). And just as we were about to move on in search of better weather the clouds cleared and the sun shone.Lynn, (one of the girls from Chicago) is staying at one of the beach hotels so we get to use the private beach as her guests. The beach is 5km out of town and we discovered that a moped was £2 a day to rent (no insurance, deposit or drivers license required!!).Lil loves riding pillion and I think we will need to get one when we get home although the helmets were nowhere near big enough for my head and as a result it would fly off if I exceeded 60kmh (although my record sans Lil was 80kmh).I use the same logic as motorway driving - get up to a speed faster than everyone else and stay in the outside lane. The key driving tips for Vietnam are:use your horn more than your brakes; don't deviate from your course to avoid people as this will confuse everyone; don't worry about giving way when you join another road; use your horn more!Any notion that we looked anything like Fonda and Hopper were quickly dispelled when we saw the photos - we can keep dreaming.FYI - Hoi An has the worst fridge magnets in the world… very disappointing!!!
