After leaving St Lucia I made my way on the Baz Bus to Durban and stayed overnight before catching the Underburg Express the following day. I ended up having to wait an extra 2,5 hours before it arrived and was constantly being tole TIA (this is Africa) a common phrase here when things don't go the way that you thought it would.
So anywho I got into Underburg and then to the hostel that I was staying in the Sani Lodge which was really in the sticks! But it was really cool at the same time and the scenery was absoloutely amazing. I'm really glad that I got to see something of Drakensburg.
My first day up here I went for a self guided hike. In hindsight this really wasn't a good idea as I got really confused a little lost and ended up in alot of brambles and fell into a few streams : S but I'm still here!!! The rest of the day I just chilled out and read my book and also spent alot of time trying to work out how to get out of Underburg again as the Underburg express didn't run on Saturdays and all other transport was very expensive! Bless the lady in the hostel was so lovely and helped me out so much with trying to find transport but it was still going to cost me 30pounds!!!
Anyway the next day was a really fun day! I went on the Sani Pass day trip with a lovely German couple whom bless ended up giving me a lift to Durban that evening and refused to take any money for petrol! Very nice people and we had a great day. The Sani Pass itself is an adventure, very steep, very rough terrain. It's just a shame that the government are thinking of tarring it up at the end of the year. When we arrived at the top we entered Lesotho (another stamp for the passport) and vistited some sheep farmers, saw the second highest peak in Africa, visited a village and then the most important part of the trip, something that I know my Dad would agree on was to take a visit to the highest pub in Africa and have a drink : D Very nice!! And of course we had to then make it back down the Sani Pass in one piece!
