This blog is going to cheer everyone up at home. The weather here was absoloutely foul! It was cold and wet. I think I felt it more than anyone else on the trip because India was so hot but I was wearing; a long sleep top, a cardigan, a hoody that I borrowed from Candy, my cag in a bag, leggings, trousers and a wooly hat. Now that you have all had a good laugh I will actually tell you what I got upto here.
The first day that I spent in Xi'en involved a hell of alot of walking. We started with our usual orientation walk so that we could get our bearings. I then can't remember the reason for walking back to the hotel but me and a few others did before we returned to the centre of town and the muslim quarter. Here we wandered the market where I was able to purcahse a new purse so that the cash that I do have actually now has a home. We then went round the drum tower vefore the bell tower. Out of the buildings the drum tower was more impressive but the bell tower had a traditional performance that we arrived for at the right time which really made it fantastic. Afterwards we made our way back to the hotel via the supermarket and the most fantastic bakery. Oh my god honestly it was so good and so cheep.
After a quick freshen up we made our way back to the muslim quarter (this time by taxi because none of us actually could physically walk anymore. We went here because our tour guide had told us about this speciality broth that included lamb, noodles and bread. We were all so looking forward to this and told that all the shops served it and we just needed to ask. When we finally got it however, it was such a dissapointment. The bread was lots of little rubber balls, the noodles were nice and the meat tender, but the actual taste of the broth was just bearable. So if anyone is going to Xi'en anytime soon please avoid (please note that this was everyones opimion of the dinner.
My second and final day in Xi'en we all went to see the terricotta warriors with a local tour guide. The warriors were fantastic to see and I'm so glad that after seeing them two years ago at the British Museum that I was able to see them where they originated from. Even the man that discovered thjem was there, unfortunately we weren't allowed to take a photograph of him. I was a little dissapointed however on how they had displayed them as they've enclosed them in concrete under such impersonable roofs. The only ones that you can also get close to were in glass cases which was unlike the British Museum that were just protected with rope. Also there were none of the carriages or animals displayed as they were in a different site that we were not going to. I was also dissapointed that it was no where near the actual tomb. Like I said it was amazing to see but I am so glad that I went to the exhibition in London first because I learnt more from there than I did here.
The rest of the day I was absoloutely shttered. I managed to get to the supermarket to buy myself a pot noodle and some fruit for dinner and then I crashed out. I only woke up for about an hour to eat and watch the final of the China tennis open and then I went back to sleep. It was so needed especially as we had an early start the next day to catch a flight to Chengdu.
