After a strange hotel in Plovdiv where Fintan had "chicken" for dinner, we decided to go back to camping if possible! Getting out of Plovdiv was easy enough, but we only got on the old main road - speed limit 60kmph. Not that anyone remotely adheres to the speed limit! Fintan even made me turn around to take a photo with an old jet... enjoy it.
At the border there were no real problems - the duty free was good, the customs officials and police were more intrigued than anything... there were a good deal of conversations going on around us about the canopy, the spares, the suspension - or so I gathered from the huddles of officials smoking and pointing in a conversational manner.
The queue to cross the border was quite long. It probably took an hour... but that was nothing compared to the traffic around Istanbul! OMG! So not only no attention to the speed limit, but lanes are also just a guideline! I'm so glad we stayed outside of the city - parking would have been a nightmare.
We drove to Kilyos, after I'd seen a website for a campsite called "Mistik Camping" 100m from the beach... sounds good right?! Well, it's good alright; showers, laundry, electricity, safe and secure... mainly because of the crazy mad dog, and odd lady who seems to live with 15 cats... not coming outside herself but opening her door to let them out... The town is nice enough though, the backlava is amazing! And the seafood... Plus the guy that runs the campsite is lovely, although speaks no English. An aging old hippy, and reminds me of my Dad...

z man One cool experience after another how sweet. Are you going to spend anytime looking at the big cities the museums everything they have to offer or is this more about campsitses and countrysides? Either way is sweet keep up the blog : )
Shonny We did go into Istanbul, and we'll be spending more time in the cities as we go further east, but getting in and finding a parking space for Yoshimi (our land cruiser) is difficult. And we decided to move quite quickly through Europe and allow ourselves more time in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
mum if i could give you 6 stars i would!
